Gamers React to PS5 Pro’s Price Tag and for Good Reason

After months of anticipation, this is what we get? A 9-minute showcase reveals a PS5 Pro with improvements that barely seem significant. As a dedicated gamer, I was excited for the PS5 Pro, only to be left feeling disappointed.

Sony offers a few minor upgrades: a larger GPU, Ray Tracing, and AI-driven upscaling. While these improvements might have been acceptable, the $699 price tag for a disc-less, stand-less console is staggering. Paying over $200 more for such minimal upgrades makes it hard to see the clear winner between PS5 Pro and PS5 battle. The most striking reaction, however, has come from the gaming community.

Within minutes of the PS5 Pro launch, gamers rushed to social media to criticize Sony for its hefty $700 price tag. I can’t say I disagree with their reaction. This collection of posts from X, Reddit threads, and other sources highlights the widespread frustration and disappointment among gamers. Of course, as gamers, we have to add a bit of humor to the mix.

Blatantly mocking the PS5 Pro’s price, many online are joking about needing multiple jobs just to afford the console. And, just like revisiting old mistakes to highlight new ones, this situation feels all too familiar.

Some gamers are even more furious, criticizing Sony for charging such a high price for minimal upgrades. Whether the industry is trying to pull a fast one on us or not, I definitely don’t feel inclined to defend the PS5 Pro’s reputation against these critiques.

While some are outraged by the PS5 Pro’s exorbitant price, others are recommending that we ditch consoles altogether and build a PC instead. As someone who already has a sleek Lenovo Legion, I’d suggest putting those Pro white-console dreams aside and embracing the dark side instead.

I’m enraged after such a long wait and the immense letdown. Yet, some gamers who are just now catching up are puzzled by the backlash against the PS5 Pro. Without going into too much detail, it’s clear that Sony dropped the ball with the price hike on this “Pro” console.

I can’t help but wonder how Concord would have looked on the PS5 Pro. Wait, never mind I can’t. The game’s dead, just like the prospects for this console’s sales.

Where’s Your Savior Now, Sony?

As someone who has spent countless hours and a lot of money on PlayStation games, I have to say I’m deeply disappointed. Sony has poorly handled this new console reveal, boasting about a 45% increase in rendering performance while failing to deliver anything substantial. My frustration is palpable.

After four years of anticipation, it took me more than nine minutes to evaluate this so-called “improvement.” I guess I’m a Pro too. As I vent my frustration, I can’t help but ask: Where’s your God now, Sony? Not in Ragnarok, as that’s also heading to PC. Do you think the PS5 Pro is overpriced, or is everyone just overreacting?
