The battle is (finally) over—for now. After 1,740 days almost five years Fortnite has returned to iOS in the U.S. That’s right, Apple users can once again dive onto the island. Epic has confirmed that the legendary battle royale is now available on the Apple App Store, AltStore, and Epic Games Store.
Fortnite was originally removed from the App Store in 2020, following an ongoing battle between Epic Games and Apple. The conflict began when Epic introduced its own payment system within the Fortnite app on iOS devices. The first sign of victory for Epic came when Fortnite made its return to iOS devices in the EU region.
However, after a significant court ruling in the Epic Games vs. Apple case where Apple was ordered not to take a cut from purchases made outside its platform Fortnite has made its return. The official confirmation came shortly after Epic Games announced its decision to take Apple back to court.
Epic CEO Tim Sweeney confirmed the plan to relaunch Fortnite, submitting the game to Apple on May 9 via the company’s EU developer account. Although Apple initially blocked its return to avoid complications in other regions, a judge stepped in, urging both sides to resolve the matter. After a brief global iOS takedown, Fortnite is officially so back!
How to Download Fortnite on iOS Devices
On May 21, Fortnite officially returned to the App Store, with Epic and Apple jointly confirming that all related issues had been resolved. Players can now download a small launcher from the App Store, which then installs the full game approximately 13GB for play. To get Fortnite on iOS in the U.S., simply visit the official App Store link and download the game.
Fortnite is compatible with iPhones that have at least 4GB of RAM and are running iOS 17.6 or later. iPhone 11 and newer models can run the game, provided they meet the software requirement. However, the iPhone SE (2nd generation), also known as the iPhone SE (2020), isn’t supported due to its 3GB of RAM. You can view the full list of supported iPhones and iPads here.
To celebrate Fortnite’s return, Epic launched a new promotion. Players who use Epic’s own payment system in Fortnite, Rocket League, or Fall Guys across various platforms, including iOS will receive 20% back in Epic Rewards. These can be redeemed for future purchases.
The iOS version now prominently displays the 20% bonus during V-Bucks purchases. To add to the excitement, Fortnite also launched a new Star Wars-themed season on May 2, giving returning players even more reason to jump back into the action.
