Battle Pass items usually provide exclusive cosmetics that are unavailable after the season ends in live-service games. However, Epic Games has announced a shift in this policy. According to a Fortnite blog from August 7, Epic revealed that Fortnite Battle Pass items will no longer remain exclusive.
Epic states in the blog that “Items in future Fortnite Battle Passes might be offered for purchase in the Fortnite Shop after 18 or more months from the Battle Pass’ expiration.” This means that Battle Pass items will no longer be exclusive 18 months after the pass expires. Epic also notes:
“A Battle Pass item may include a different number of its alt Styles each time it comes to the Shop.”
Fortnite Battle Pass Item Exclusivity Update
These changes might raise some questions for Fortnite players, and Epic Games has addressed them in a brief FAQ. According to Epic, not all Battle Pass items will be available in the shop after the Battle Pass ends. But for an eligible item, 18 months after the Battle Pass expires it will show up in the shop.
However, this does not guarantee that cosmetics from a Battle Pass will immediately appear in the shop. This includes all items such as Outfits, Back Blings, Emotes, Pickaxes, Instruments, Wraps, Loading Screens, Decals, Banner Icons, and more.
Skins with multiple styles will also be available in the shop, but there’s a twist. These skins will appear in a random style. For example, if a skin has a “LEGO Style”, it could show up in any of its available styles. Epic also mentioned that items from the Bonus Rewards and Quest Rewards tabs can be purchased from the shop once the 18-month period is over.
While the Battle Pass itself won’t change, some IP items that were previously exclusive to the Battle Pass, like Deadpool or Spider-Man, might be added to the shop. Even rewards that were only earnable through Battle Pass quests could eventually appear in the item shop. This change is expected to happen at the beginning of Chapter 5 Season 4.
