Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, has unveiled the first version of Grokipedia, an AI-powered encyclopedia that the Tesla and X chief promotes as a neutral substitute for Wikipedia. The platform launched with over 885,000 articles, with version 1.0 expected to roll out soon.
How Grokipedia Differs from Wikipedia
Following the introduction of Grok’s video generation model, xAI launched Grokipedia.com, which went live on Monday. Musk confirmed its release in a post on X, describing it as a more factual and less biased counterpart to Wikipedia—a platform he has repeatedly criticized for being left-leaning and partial.
“The mission of Grok and Grokipedia is to pursue truth—completely and transparently. Though perfection is impossible, we aim for it,” Musk stated in response to another post. The homepage features a simple design and allows users to toggle between dark and light themes.

The article layout mirrors Wikipedia, featuring a content list on the left and the main article occupying the rest of the space. Each entry includes source citations at the bottom and shows the most recent fact-check date at the top. Users can highlight any section to flag errors or ask Grok for further clarification.

Musk also revealed that xAI is developing Grokipedia version 1.0, promising it will be ten times more advanced than the current version.
While Grokipedia’s key focus is its unbiased reporting, shortly after launch, publications such as Wired and The Washington Post accused it of spreading narratives aligned with Musk’s perspective. Meanwhile, Musk’s supporters on X have applauded the platform for its objective and balanced presentation.
