The unveiling of Death Stranding 2 at the PlayStation State of Play event came as a shock to myself and countless others. While the first game sparked divided opinions, it undeniably delivered a comprehensive cinematic journey. Now, it appears that creator Hideo Kojima is ready to expand upon his vision, offering us a glimpse into the highly anticipated Death Stranding 2.
The game, titled Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, promises to maintain the mysterious and eerie atmosphere of its predecessor, judging by the brand-new trailer. This time, it will be an exclusive release for PlayStation 5 in 2025.
Following the events of Death Stranding, it appears that Lea Seydoux’s character, Fragile, has established a new civilian faction known as Drawbridge. Their mission is to reconnect with a new destination, hinted to be Mexico and the surrounding regions of America. Set years after Sam’s disappearance with Louise in Death Stranding, the game explores the aftermath of these events.
After the United Cities of America (UCA) reconnected, they withdrew, leaving much of the world isolated once again and diminishing the necessity for Porters. In response, Fragile established Drawbridge to continue the UCA’s mission of reconnecting isolated regions to the rest of the world.
In Death Stranding 2, players will operate from a new base, the DHV Mejallan, as they work to expand the network coverage across various locations in what appears to be Mexico. The trailer also showcases a variety of new biomes, including rocky terrains, deserts, and a bustling metropolitan city, providing players with a diverse and immersive experience.
The trailer also reintroduces the returning antagonist, Higgs, who now sports a hairstyle reminiscent of Amelie from Death Stranding and seems to have adopted a rock-and-roll aesthetic. Additionally, we’re introduced to several new characters, including a talking doll, the captain of the DHV Mejallan, a mysterious ninja figure, and another enigmatic female character.
Overall, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach appears to be a culmination of the best features from the previous game, enhanced and refined, with intriguing new additions. Coupled with the anticipation surrounding the upcoming movie, it’s evident that fans are in for an exciting experience. What are your impressions of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach?
