After its troubled initial release, Cyberpunk 2077 has undergone extensive overhauls. The latest 2.11 patch introduces a new feature in the Gameplay settings called “Prioritize P-Cores.“
In the latest Cyberpunk 2077 2.11 patch, Intel processor owners gain access to the “Prioritize P-Cores” setting, allowing them to bypass other CPU scheduling methods implemented by the operating system. Here’s a guide on how to activate this feature through the in-game options.
This feature can potentially provide performance benefits to CPUs that have a hybrid performance architecture, consisting of performance (P) cores and efficiency (E) cores. This includes Intel 14th Gen Raptor Lake Refresh processors for desktops and laptops, as well as CPUs going back to 12th Gen Alder Lake, which are designed with this architecture.
Cyberpunk 2077: P-Core Prioritization Tested with In-Game Benchmark
There are other methods to allocate specific cores to your game, but having this feature integrated into the gameplay settings of Cyberpunk 2077 is convenient. After updating the game with a 9.2GB patch on Steam, I tested the new “Prioritize P-Core” setting.
My system runs on Windows 11 and is equipped with an i7-14700HX processor and an RTX 4060 GPU. I set the in-game graphics to 1080p Medium, with no ray-tracing enabled to emphasize CPU performance.
Using the in-game benchmark, which simulates various scenarios, I observed a slight increase in average FPS when the P-Core utilization setting was enabled. If you have an Intel CPU with hybrid performance architecture, it might be worthwhile to enable this setting in the game to potentially boost your performance.
It’s important to note that the “Prioritize P-Core” feature is new and may improve over time. However, some users are reporting stutter issues with this setting enabled in Cyberpunk 2077, which we also experienced during testing.
In addition to the CPU utilization feature, the patch includes numerous bug fixes and optimizations. One significant change is the improvement in the driving experience, particularly for vehicles like the Rayfield Caliburn. Furthermore, owners of AMD RX Vega GPUs should see a performance boost with this update.
Overall, the latest patch seems to bring some welcome improvements and fixes, but it’s essential to be cautious with new features like “Prioritize P-Core” until they are more refined.
