After months of anticipation for PlayStation’s next live-service game, we finally got an extended look. During the State of Play event, Firewalk, the creators of Concord, showcased the gameplay and provided a brief glimpse into the story of the upcoming game. Alongside the gameplay reveal, the developers also announced the release date and platforms.
Gameplay and Mechanics of Concord
Firewalk describes Concord as a 5v5 shooter set in a sci-fi universe. In Concord, players join the Northstar crew, a band of mercenaries known as Freegunners. They navigate the vast expanse of space, undertaking high-risk assignments and engaging in battles against rival crews for fame and rewards. By teaming up with other players, exploring diverse maps and modes, players aim to dominate the competition.
Developers stated, “Right from the start, our goal was to create a finely tuned, balanced FPS that offers a seamless gameplay experience from the moment you start playing.”
“While our core gunplay will feel familiar to shooter fans, the versatility and variety of each Freegunner and their abilities makes it so aim and thumbskill alone aren’t always enough to come out on top.”
Concord features a diverse range of Freegunners, ranging from mystics harnessing fire to robotic tanks. Each character possesses unique abilities that significantly influence gameplay strategy. Some abilities provide immediate tactical benefits, such as deploying firewalls or launching explosives.
Others have lasting effects on the battlefield, including setting up persistent obstacles, traps, or buffs that shape future rounds. At launch, Concord will introduce a roster of 16 distinct Freegunners, offering players a variety of playstyles to learn and master. This asymmetry ensures every game you dive into is dynamic and enjoyable.
Release Date and Platforms for Concord
As per the official announcement, Concord is set to launch worldwide on August 23, 2024. Players can also anticipate a beta later this year. The game will make its debut in the sci-fi realm on both PS5 and PC simultaneously upon release, marking it as the second live service game, following Helldivers 2, to achieve this feat.
The prospect of engaging in gameplay reminiscent of Guardians of the Galaxy is undoubtedly thrilling. With the release date unveiled, are you now eagerly anticipating Concord? Share your excitement in the comments below!
