Count Ymir, unlike most NPCs, remains in one location throughout his quest line, simplifying progression as you don’t need to search the map for him. He can be found in the Cathedral of Manus Metyr.
To reach the Cathedral of Manus Metyr from Bonny Village, head south from the Church District Highroad to find the Cathedral of Manus Metyr Site of Grace. Follow the steps below in order to complete the Count Ymir questline in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.
Blow the Horn in the Finger Ruins of Rhia.
Upon meeting Count Ymir in the Cathedral of Manus Metyr, he will provide you with two items:
- the First Ruin Map, which reveals the Finger Ruins of Rhia
- the Hole Laden Necklace, used to blow the horn in the Finger Ruins.
Be sure to exhaust all his dialogue options to acquire both items before proceeding to the Finger Ruins of Rhia.
To locate the Finger Ruins of Rhia, follow these steps:
- From the Cerulean Coast Site of Grace, travel southward to the Cerulean Coast Cross Site of Grace.
- Then, proceed northeast until you come across the Finger Ruins of Rhia Site of Grace.
- In the center of these ruins, you will find the horn. Once located, blow the horn to complete the initial part of Count Ymir’s questline. Additionally, blowing the horn will grant you the Crimson Seed +1 Talisman.
Blow the Horn in the Finger Ruins of Dheo
Return to Count Ymir at the Cathedral of Manus Metyr and speak with him again. This time, he will provide you with two items:
- Beloved Stardust Talisman: Reduces casting and incantation speed significantly but increases damage taken.
- Second Ruin Map: Displays the Finger Ruins of Deho.
The Beloved Stardust Talisman is a reward for blowing the horn in the Finger Ruins of Rhia, and the second map is essential for continuing the questline. You can now speak with Jolan at the Cathedral of Manus Metyr. She will acknowledge that you have earned Count Ymir’s trust and offer her assistance.
Head to the Finger Ruins of Dheo and blow the horn to progress Count Ymir’s questline. Here’s how to get there:
- From the Shadow Keep Back Gate Site of Grace, perform the “Oh Mother” gesture by Queen Marika’s statue to unlock the secret passage to the Hinterlands. You can find this gesture in the northern corner of Bonny Village.
- From the Hinterland Site of Grace, travel east across the bridge to reach the Fingerstone Hill Site of Grace.
- Make your way to the center of the Finger Ruins of Dheo and blow the second horn. As a reward, you will receive the Cerulean Seed Talisman +1.
Blow the Horn in the Finger Ruins of Miyr
Return to the Cathedral of Manus Metyr and speak with Count Ymir once more. This time, he will give you the Third Ruin Map, which shows the Finger Ruins of Miyr.
Rest at the Site of Grace and you’ll find that Count Ymir is no longer on his throne. Instead, he can be found next to Yuri’s grave in the Cathedral Cemetery. Speak with him, and he will express his desire to be left alone.
To progress Count Ymir’s questline, you need to head to the Finger Ruins of Miyr and blow the horn there. Here’s how:

Defeat Metyr, Mother of Fingers
To progress Count Ymir’s questline, you need to defeat Metyr, Mother of Fingers in the Finger Birthing Grounds. Here’s a quick guide to help you with the fight:
- Strength Weapons: These deal significant damage to Metyr.
- Bleed Effect: Use bleed attacks to quickly reduce her health bar.
- Avoid AoE Attacks: Sprint away during her AoE Gravity attacks.

Defeat Count Ymir, Mother of Fingers
Return to the Cathedral of Manus Metyr, re-enter the main room, and interact with the Throne. This time, Jolan The Swordhand of Night will invade you. After defeating her, the Count Ymir, Mother of Fingers boss battle will begin.
Here are some tips to defeat Count Ymir:
- Melee Damage: Count Ymir is vulnerable to melee attacks. Stay close to him and keep striking until he teleports to another location.
- Persistent Melee Attacks: Continue attacking Ymir at close range to defeat him quickly.
- Avoid Ranged Attacks: Ranged attacks are ineffective against him.
Defeating Count Ymir, Mother of Fingers, grants the following rewards:
- Ymir’s Bell Bearing
- Maternal Staff
- High Priest Hat

Talk to Jolan, the Swordhand of Night.
After defeating Count Ymir, rest at the Site of Grace and enter the Cathedral’s main area to discover Jolan slumped against the pillar. You have the option to give her either the Iris of Grace or the Iris of Occultation.
She will say she can no longer see stars. You can give her either the Iris of Grace or the Iris of Occultation.
- Iris of Grace: Jolan, the Swordhand of Night, transforms into a spirit summon.
- Iris of Occultation: Received the Sword of Night weapon.
