CERT-in Warns of Security Flaws in iPhones with the Latest iOS 17.2 Update

If you’ve recently updated your iPhone to the newly launched iOS 17.2, there’s vital information you need to heed. The Computer Emergency Response Team of India (CERT-In) has issued a warning specifically regarding iPhones running iOS 17.2, highlighting significant security vulnerabilities.

These vulnerabilities pose a high risk as they potentially grant attackers access to various iPhone models, including the iPhone 15, iPhone 14, and other compatible devices. This security advisory from CERT-In indicates that these weaknesses in Apple products might empower cybercriminals to gain unauthorized access to sensitive and personal data. The identified security vulnerabilities pose serious risks, allowing attackers to,

These security flaws aren’t limited to iOS 17.2 but extend to other Apple operating systems, including iPadOS 17.2, macOS Sonoma 14.2, tvOS 17.2, watchOS 17.2, and Safari 17.2. Additionally, older versions such as iOS 16.7.3, iPadOS 16.7.3, macOS Ventura 13.6.3, and macOS Monterey 12.7.2 are also affected by these vulnerabilities.

The latest iOS 17.2 update brings a variety of new features such as the Journal app, updated camera functionalities tailored for iPhone 15 Pro models, Weather app enhancements, and translations for the iPhone 15 Pro models’ Action button.

Conversely, several vulnerabilities have been identified in Samsung smartphones running Android versions 13, 12, 11, and even Android 14. Devices like the Samsung Galaxy S23, Galaxy Z Fold/Flip 5, and others may be susceptible to these vulnerabilities, which are attributed to insufficient access control within Knox features and issues with the AR Emoji app.

Both Samsung and Apple are reportedly working on releasing security patches to address these concerns. To ensure safety, it’s advisable to promptly download these security patches once available. Additionally, it’s crucial to keep apps updated and refrain from interacting with suspicious downloads or links to maintain device security.
