As the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 draws near, a new trailer has been revealed for the game’s zombie mode. This trailer offers a detailed preview of Treyarch’s plans for the next chapter in the Dark Aether storyline. It confirms that Black Ops 6 Zombies will pick up right after the events of Cold War Zombies, marking a significant return for Dr. Edward Richtofen.
To recap, the Requiem staff was taken captive after the events of the Forsaken Zombies map. It was later revealed that this was part of the Director’s plan, who was ultimately identified as Edward Richtofen. Additionally, we saw William Peck searching for “some old friends” six years after the conclusion of Cold War Zombies.
The trailer begins with Grigori Weaver, Major Carver, Dr. Grey, Raptor-1, and Dr. Strauss imprisoned on Terminus Island. They are freed by a new character named Maya, who is allied with William Peck.
Peck reveals that the rescue mission is aimed at finding and eliminating Edward Richtofen, who has stolen his life’s work. In return for their help, the group agrees to assist Maya in rescuing her brother. During this exchange, an announcement warns of a “Dimensional breach in progress,” accompanied by the sounds of zombie screams. The trailer concludes with the team splitting up to battle the undead and track down Richtofen’s coordinates.
What Is Richtofen’s Grand Plan? How Will He Fit into the Black Ops 6 Zombies Storyline?
It appears that Edward Richtofen will be the main antagonist in this installment. He seems to be colluding with the Russians and the Omega group while also serving as the Director of the CIA. This suggests he may have been the mastermind behind the events of Cold War Zombies. Richtofen has already managed to trap Samantha Maxis and the Forsaken entity as part of Project Janus.
We still don’t have all the details about Project Janus, but considering Janus is the Roman God of doorways and new beginnings, it’s possible that Richtofen may be attempting to reopen the gates of Dark Aether or even Agartha for his own nefarious goals. Personally, I’m eager to see him return as a malevolent mastermind, reminiscent of his role in the original Call of Duty: Black Ops.
What are your theories after viewing the new Zombies trailer? Do you believe Richtofen will be the primary antagonist, or could he be trying to prevent an even greater threat?
