Apple Set to Unveil visionOS-Inspired Redesign for iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS 16

Although we’re just a few months into the iOS 18 cycle, development for the next iteration of iOS is already underway. Earlier this year, reports surfaced about a redesign of the iPhone Camera app, and now it seems Apple is gearing up for a broader visual overhaul across its operating systems, starting with iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS 16.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is planning a significant design refresh for iPhones, iPads, and Macs. The Apple‘s overhaul aims to revamp the “appearance of icons, menus, apps, windows, and system buttons” in iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS 16. This new design language will align more closely with the aesthetics of Apple’s visionOS, creating a more cohesive and modern user experience across its ecosystem.

This move could be Apple’s strategy to bring visionOS into the spotlight, making it a more central part of its ecosystem. The ultimate goal of this redesign is to “simplify the way users navigate and control” their Apple devices. While the specifics of these changes remain unclear, Gurman emphasized that this will mark “the biggest revamp since iOS 7” for iPhones. Since the release of iOS 7 in 2013, the overall look and feel of iPhones and iPads have remained largely unchanged. As a result, Apple’s decision to pursue a redesign with iOS 19 and iPadOS 19 seems like a logical step forward.

Gurman also highlights that this update will be the most substantial for the Mac in years, representing the first major overhaul since macOS Big Sur debuted in 2020. This shift underscores Apple’s vision for a more unified and consistent user interface across all its devices. However, the report clarifies that Apple has no plans to merge its operating systems, ensuring that iOS, iPadOS, and macOS will remain distinct platforms.

More details about this redesign and the upcoming features of iOS 19 may surface as we near Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) later this year. While the company has yet to announce an official date for the event, past trends suggest it will likely take place in June 2025.
