Apple Introduces Apple Music, TV, and Devices Apps to Replace iTunes on Windows

Since its inception in 2001, iTunes, Apple’s versatile software program, is nearing the end of its tenure on Windows. Apple has unveiled three specialized apps – Apple Music, Apple TV, and Apple Devices – tailored for music playback, content streaming, and device management on Windows PCs. These individual apps signify the conclusion of theiTunes eraon certain computers.

As part of Apple’s initiative to divide iTunes into distinct platforms on Windows, the trio of apps aims to provide users with a similar experience to that on Macs. According to Apple’s Support Page, these apps are only compatible with Windows 10 and later versions.

In 2022, Microsoft unveiled its intentions to introduce Apple Music and Apple TV apps to the Microsoft Store, indicating a collaborative effort to replace iTunes. This plan has been in development for over a year, highlighting a long-standing initiative to transition away from iTunes.

The Apple Music app enables Windows users to listen to and organize music from their iTunes library, encompassing iTunes Store acquisitions. Similarly, the Apple TV app permits users to view and organize TV shows and movies sourced from the iTunes library.

True to their names, these apps grant Windows users access to Apple’s streaming services, Apple Music, and Apple TV+. Additionally, the Apple Devices app empowers PC owners to manually update, back up, restore, and oversee their iPhones and iPads. Furthermore, this app enables Windows users to manually synchronize content from their PCs.

It’s important to mention that PC users must download all three apps separately. Attempting to download only one will prompt iTunes to recommend downloading the other two to ensure access to music and video content from iTunes. Consequently, Windows users need to download all three individual apps to access music, Apple TV content, and manage devices.

Once the trio of Apple apps is installed on a compatible Windows PC, iTunes is solely utilized for accessing podcasts and audiobooks. It’s important to note that both the Apple Music and Apple TV apps rely on the content within the iTunes library to access media content, thus users should refrain from deleting the iTunes app.

PC users who haven’t transitioned to Windows 10 or later versions, or those who are unable to do so, can still utilize iTunes. Nonetheless, the introduction of the new standalone apps provides a contemporary experience that closely resembles Mac interfaces.
