Android 15 may not appear to be a significant update at first glance, but it introduces essential features like Notification Cooldown, App Archiving, Private Space, and more. Initially, it seemed that the update would roll out last month as developer previews and betas were released, but it was delayed. However, recent reports indicate that we now have a potential release date for Android 15.
According to Android Headlines, the final stable version of Android 15 is expected to be available as soon as October 15. Google typically releases major updates on Mondays, so it was expected on October 14. Since this date coincides with a holiday (Columbus Day) in the US, the rollout is likely to happen on October 15.
On the release day, only Google Pixel phones, specifically the Pixel 6 and newer models, will be able to install and use Android 15. Other manufacturers are expected to unveil their Android 15-based skins in the coming days. I’m particularly excited to try out Nothing OS 3.0 and One UI 7.0 as soon as they’re available. In the meantime, you can check out the full list of Android 15-compatible devices to see if your phone will receive the update.
For those who may not know, Google pushed Android 15 to AOSP in September, marking the longest wait for Pixel users after its AOSP release. The reasons behind the delay remain unclear, but Android expert Mishaal Rahman (via X) suggested that Google may be aiming to ensure greater stability at launch. This rationale is understandable, given that previous Android versions have had their share of annoying bugs upon release.
That said, the Android 15 release date is definitely good news for Pixel owners, and we look forward to seeing other manufacturers roll out their versions of Android 15 soon.
