2XKO Reveals Illaoi Gameplay Before EVO Japan

In February, Riot Games’ 2XKO teased a new character named Illaoi. Despite the initial reveal, there was little information about the character until now. Ahead of this week’s EVO Japan celebrations, the game creators have finally showcased some gameplay featuring Illaoi. In a recent video, 2XKO game designer Caroline Montano provides a breakdown of what players can expect from this new addition.

In a six-minute video posted on the official X account and YouTube, we get a glimpse of Illaoi, the Kraken Priestess, in action in 2XKO. Illaoi is a powerful fighter who relies on pressuring opponents into making mistakes. She uses the spirit tentacles of Nagakabouros to set up her attacks and deal significant damage. Her large physique and the imposing golden totem further enhance her ability to deliver devastating blows to her opponents.

Illaoi’s abilities in 2XKO heavily revolve around her tentacles. Players can use S2 specials to summon a spirit tentacle and S1 specials to prompt Illaoi to execute a tentacle follow-up attack. The tentacles have a specific splash zone, meaning opponents must be within this area to be struck. Additionally, players can teleport the nearest tentacle to the opponent under certain conditions, allowing them to strategically control the battlefield and zone out their opponents.

Even if opponents manage to deactivate her tentacles with a hit, Illaoi remains a dominant force in fights in 2XKO. She boasts one of the strongest neutral options, the coolest supers, and one of the most visually striking ultimates. Illaoi synergizes particularly well with faster, rush-down characters like Ahri. As someone who has recently gravitated toward heavy characters for their high damage output, Illaoi seems like a perfect fit for me.

Illaoi will be playable in the 2XKO demo at EVO Japan this weekend, alongside Yasuo, Ekko, Ahri, and Darius. I’m personally very excited about 2XKO. Are you looking forward to it as well? Also, feel free to share your character roster wishlists in the comments below!
