Just ahead of Google I/O, Nothing dropped a community update unveiling the Android 15 Developer Preview Program. In a twist, the update exclusively targets the recently launched Nothing Phone 2a, sidelining the flagship Nothing Phone 2. For those eager to explore the new features, here’s a rapid walkthrough to transition to Android 15 Beta 1 on the Nothing Phone 2a.
The latest update is accessible solely for the white, black, and milk versions of the Phone 2a, excluding the blue variant specifically launched in India. Prior to commencing, ensure your device is running on the latest Nothing OS 2.5.5a update.
Update to Android 15 Beta on the Nothing Phone 2a
Once you’re prepared, proceed with these steps to install the latest Android Beta 1 on your phone.
- Download the Android Beta package directly onto your phone.
- Using a file manager, establish a folder titled “ota” within your phone’s internal storage.
- Transfer the update file to the “ota” directory.
- Now, launch your phone’s Dialer app and input the following code:
*#*#682#*#*
- This action will launch the local update tool. Choose the update package from the drop-down menu as depicted in the screenshot.
- If the OTA update file is not visible, tap the Browse button, locate the “ota” folder, and then select the upgrade file.
- Now, tap the “Directly apply OTA from selection” button to initiate the process. Ensure that you do not remove the local update tool from the recent apps or close the app.
- After the upgrade process is complete, tap “Confirm” on the pop-up to reboot the device.
After the restart, your phone will boot into Android 15 Beta 1, appearing as a new device since all data will be erased. If you want to revert to Android 14, download the rollback package and follow the same steps.
After installing the Beta build, we observed no discernible changes to the device. Despite the community changelogs mentioning new boot animation and wallpapers, none were apparent. It appears to be a basic iteration of Android, lacking all Nothing OS design, features, and apps. Additionally, both the fingerprint scanner and face unlock are non-functional in this build. Therefore, I advise exercising patience and awaiting the next release.
If you’ve already transitioned to this Android 15 build on your Nothing Phone 2a, we’re eager to hear your thoughts. Drop your experiences in the comments box underneath.
