Grand Theft Auto 6 is inching closer to release, and if the rumors are true, it could feature the largest map in the franchise’s history. Rockstar Games is already known for creating expansive open worlds, so it’s reasonable to expect something even bigger this time. However, questions about the exact size and locations of the GTA 6 map remain unanswered until the game officially launches. Fortunately, there are some clues that give us a glimpse of what to expect.
In this guide, we’ve gathered all the confirmed and rumored locations in GTA 6’s Leonida. This includes references to Vice City map locations spotted in the trailer, as well as fan-made map renditions from the mapping project based on leaked details. So, without further ado, let’s dive in!
What is the GTA 6 Map Location?
GTA 6 takes place in the state of Leonida, with Vice City as a key location within this vast setting. While the full extent of Leonida hasn’t been officially confirmed, the first GTA 6 trailer gives us a glimpse of the Leonida State Police, hinting at a larger region. Additionally, the Vice City map shown in the trailer strongly resembles Miami. Given Rockstar Games’ tendency to draw inspiration from real-world locations, it’s likely that Leonida is based on the state of Florida.

Much like its real-world counterpart, Miami, Vice City in GTA 6 is defined by vibrant neon lights, lively nightclubs, and picturesque beaches. The trailer showcases densely populated Vice City beaches, with a level of crowd detail and activity that surpasses anything seen in previous Grand Theft Auto games.
Vice City’s main strip appears to be a bustling hub filled with heavy traffic, lively pedestrians, neon lights, and pulsating music. Beyond the city, the trailer reveals rural areas that resemble parts of Florida and its neighboring states, such as Georgia, featuring vast highways and open landscapes. We also get a brief look at GTA 6’s version of the Everglades flooded grasslands rich with wildlife and seemingly navigable by airboat.
GTA 6 Map Size (Expected)
Leaks and fan theories suggest that GTA 6’s map could be nearly twice the size of GTA 5’s, featuring three major cities, several sub-cities, and a central body of water known as Lake Leonida. The world is expected to include a functional tram system, an airport, and a variety of enterable locations, such as nightclubs, supermarkets, and gun stores.
The game’s environment appears rich with detail, featuring wildlife like alligators and bobcats, as well as environmental elements like toxic waste indicators. Leaked information also reveals glimpses of the protagonist’s apartments and a hotel called the Kington Hotel, which hosts a pool party with live music.
Many attempts have been made to estimate and reconstruct the GTA 6 map using trailer footage and leaked information. One of the most convincing efforts comes from YouTuber Dark Space, who compiled theoretical data from Reddit and combined it with real-world topographical data. This detailed reconstruction is currently regarded as one of the most realistic interpretations of what the final map might look like.
Expanding on Dark Space’s work, another user reportedly applied mathematical calculations to estimate that GTA 6’s map will be approximately 70% larger than GTA 5’s. While these calculations appear well-reasoned, it’s important to take them with a grain of salt, as Rockstar has yet to officially reveal the full extent of the game’s map.

Will GTA 6’s Map Expand with New Cities Over Time?
One of the biggest questions surrounding the GTA 6 map is whether new cities will be added post-launch. Traditionally, Grand Theft Auto games release with their full map intact, but the massive success of GTA Online suggests a shift in approach. With rumors of Rockstar Games developing a GTA 6 “metaverse,” there’s a possibility that new cities could be introduced with seasonal updates.
While there’s no official confirmation, the idea of a Grand Theft Auto map featuring all previous cities is something fans have long hoped for. Many have even created custom maps merging locations like Liberty City, Los Santos, and Vice City, imagining the potential of an interconnected world. While this remains unlikely, if GTA 6 adopts a Fortnite-style evolving map, we could see more iconic cities added over time.
That’s everything we know so far about the GTA 6 map and its locations. Do you think Grand Theft Auto 6 will feature the biggest map in the series’ history? Let us know in the comments!
