As a fan of the Grand Theft Auto series, you likely have features you want to see in the highly anticipated sequel this year. Rockstar Games has crafted each GTA title with its own unique identity, making it reasonable to hope for the best mechanics from past editions. While GTA 6 will undoubtedly have its own character, I yearn for some nostalgic elements. Since I don’t yet have access to Grand Theft Auto 6, I envisioned my ideal sequel. Here are the classic GTA mechanics I hope to see!
1. RPG Elements from GTA San Andreas
One of the things I miss most in GTA 5 is the rich RPG element that was so prominent in San Andreas. Features like customizing your physique through workouts and diet added a whole new layer of personalization that made the game feel more immersive. It’s a classic mechanic I’d love to see return in Grand Theft Auto 6.
Just imagine Lucia gaining a strength boost that enhances her melee abilities, or Jason’s stamina determining how long he can sprint during high-stakes chases. The clothing system could also go beyond just style, affecting things like stealth or how NPCs respond based on your social standing in different circles.
The RPG features from San Andreas could enrich gameplay significantly, allowing skill progression in driving, shooting, and flying that rewards practice. This system could enable unique character specializations, tailoring protagonists to preferred playstyles.
For example, one character might excel in close-quarters combat while the other is a sharpshooter, affecting mission strategies. Integrating these mechanics would encourage multiple playthroughs to experience different character developments, creating a more immersive and customized criminal experience in GTA 6.
2. Mini-Games in GTA 6: Beyond the Main Missions
With a vast open world in GTA 6, players will need engaging distractions. Classic mini-games from San Andreas and Vice City could significantly enhance the single-player experience.
Bringing back classic GTA minigames with deeper personalization in GTA 6 could take the single-player experience to a whole new level. Picture a revamped bowling alley where you can customize your bowling balls, choose unique lane themes, and even compete in local leagues.
If pool makes a return, imagine selecting personalized cues and setting custom betting rules to raise the stakes. Tennis could include unlockable playstyles and the ability to design your own outfits. Even the stock market could evolve allowing investments in businesses you create or influence, adding a fresh layer of strategy that builds on GTA 5 and Online’s existing systems.
Beyond the in-house minigames, Rockstar Games could expand GTA 6’s world with even more immersive side activities. Racing, for instance, could include visual and performance upgrades, along with community-shared custom tracks for endless variety. Hunting could make a return too, but this time with personalized, craftable gear that makes the experience feel more involved and rewarding.
Casino games and Darts could benefit from customizable table designs, themed environments, and player avatars that reflect the vibrant, neon-soaked energy of Vice City. These added layers of personalization would breathe new life into classic mini-games, giving them a unique flair and making the world feel more connected. After all, some mini-games were more than just a distraction they were an integral part of what made past GTA titles so unforgettable.
3. Vigilante, Taxi, and Paramedic Missions
Remember those exciting side missions that added depth to the Grand Theft Auto experience? They weren’t just mini-games; they were essential to the game’s fabric. The thrill of chasing criminals as a vigilante, navigating traffic as a taxi driver, or racing to save lives as a paramedic brought a new dimension to the gameplay.
Imagine these missions expanded in Vice City and other areas of Leonida in GTA 6.Rockstar could enhance taxi missions with dynamic pursuits and improved AI, and paramedic scenarios with realistic consequences. Modernized missions would offer engaging diversions and deepen our connection to the game world.
4. Unleashing Kill Streaks with Rampages
Rampages were the perfect way to unleash pure chaos when you just wanted to blow off some steam. These timed challenges handed you a specific weapon and dared you to cause as much destruction as possible mowing down pedestrians, blowing up vehicles, and racking up carnage before the clock ran out. It was raw, unapologetic fun that embodied the wild spirit of classic GTA.
Just imagine the visual chaos of Rampages in GTA 6 powered by Rockstar’s next-gen graphics engine! The explosions, debris, and realistic physics would turn every spree into a cinematic masterpiece. Reviving Rampages with more varied objectives maybe one has you chasing targets on jet skis, another inside a collapsing skyscraper would be the perfect way to channel that old-school GTA mayhem. And if Rockstar lets me tear through Vice Beach with a minigun again, stacking up that kill streak while the sunset burns in the background? Man, that’s the nostalgia I’m craving.
5. Property Ownership and Customization
Saving up for safehouses, a key feature in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and earlier titles, provided a tangible sense of progression. Rockstar could bring this classic mechanic into GTA 6 by allowing deeper customization of property interiors, potentially influencing gameplay elements such as storage capacity or passive income generation, much like the business upgrades in Grand Theft Auto V.
Additionally, a garage feature to buy and customize cars in GTA 6 would be a fantastic addition. If you enjoy owning businesses, a mechanic seen in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and expanded upon in later games like GTA 5, this would enhance the gameplay experience even further.
With actual management mechanics that impact profitability and in-game influence, property ownership could become a powerful character-building tool. This personalized level of ownership would significantly enhance immersion expanding beyond simple safehouses to a variety of businesses. It would make the player’s journey through Vice City in GTA 6 feel uniquely their own, adding a layer of strategic depth through the management and customization of their acquired properties.
These are all the classic GTA mechanics I’d love to see return in GTA 6. With them, Rockstar could create a truly unforgettable and richly layered world one that both honors its legacy and pushes the boundaries of open-world gaming.
