Xbox Could Bring Back These Classic Marvel Games; Are You Ready for a Nostalgia Trip?

Marvel games have long been a hot topic, with opinions ranging from praise to criticism. Among the many Marvel titles released over the years, some stand out as true classics. Two of these iconic games, Deadpool and Marvel Ultimate Alliance, are rumored to be getting a revival from Xbox. Here’s hoping we’ll see these favorites make a comeback!

Xbox Missed Big by Not Acquiring the Spider-Man IP

Before diving into the excitement of a potential revival, let’s revisit a notable missed opportunity for Xbox. In 2013, Activision launched the Deadpool game for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4. However, the license expired in 2014, leading to the game’s removal from stores and making it unavailable for purchase. A similar situation occurred with Marvel Ultimate Alliance.

These incidents made it difficult for fans to enjoy the games after they were delisted, with physical copies being sold at exorbitant prices. And so, the fans waited. It’s worth noting that even Marvel’s Spider-Man was initially considered for Xbox before they declined the IP.

Despite having successful Spider-Man games like Shattered Dimensions and Spider-Man 2, Activision didn’t focus on long-term strategy. The consequences are clear today. However, with new rumors surfacing, perhaps things are finally about to change.

What Could the Xbox Marvel Revival Mean?

According to Shpeshal Nick on the XboxEra Podcast, Xbox is working to re-license the Xbox One ports of Deadpool and Marvel Ultimate Alliance for PC and Xbox Series X/S. While this might seem like a simple effort to bring these two games to modern platforms, I suspect something bigger is in the works.

With the licenses for these games in hand, Xbox could potentially revive its Activision wing to bring back Marvel games. Activision had been developing some fantastic Spider-Man titles, but the opportunity was lost due to overproduction.

With Deadpool’s popularity surging after Deadpool & Wolverine, Xbox may have recognized the opportunity to tap into nostalgia by reviving Marvel games on its platform. Marvel Ultimate Alliance already has a devoted fan base eager to play it again. If Xbox successfully re-licenses these games, fans could be in for an incredible nostalgic rollercoaster.

While Xbox’s potential Marvel revival is exciting, it’s undeniable that others have already made significant strides on the Marvel front. Sony has seen immense success with its Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 games, and Epic Games has made its mark with the Fortnite x Marvel collaboration.

Even Marvel Rivals has made an impact with its collaboration with NetEase Games for a live-action experience. If Xbox wants to win back fans, they’ll need to offer something unique and compelling. With Marvel’s Blade coming to Xbox soon, there’s hope for more exciting developments.
