While I enjoy all genres of games, fighting games are the category I continually return to. Whether it’s the recently released Tekken 8 (review) or last year’s Street Fighter 6, I love them all. After finishing Tekken 8’s main story, I immersed myself in the game’s ranked mode for an excessive amount of time. Unfortunately, like any other ranked game, the fun gradually diminished. While I expected this to some extent due to the competitive nature of ranked games, I didn’t anticipate it happening so quickly.
Unsure of how to remedy this, I began searching the Internet. Fortunately, one day I stumbled upon a post discussing a Tekken 8 mod called Tranquility. Initially appearing simple, the mod significantly enhanced my Tekken 8 experience. So, what is this mod, and how did it reinvigorate my enjoyment of Tekken 8? Let’s delve into that.
What Is the Tranquility Mod in Tekken 8?
Although one might assume that the serenity mod in Tekken 8 would address issues such as connection problems or poor textures, it actually does something quite distinct: It disables player rankings. Allow me to elaborate.
In Tekken 8, each time you engage in ranked matches, you’re greeted with your opponent’s rank. Depending on your adversary, they could be two or three ranks higher or lower than you. After the match, you receive a rank bar indicating how many points above or below your current placement you’ve reached. Essentially, the serenity mod in Tekken 8 disables these cues, eliminating the sense of urgency and the additional pressure.
It’s important to mention that while the mod removes ranks, it retains all other necessary information for your battles’ outcomes. This gave me ample space to engage in my ranked matches calmly, free from the stress of watching my levels fluctuate.
Tranquility Enhanced My Ranked Matches by a Margin
Given my limited tolerance for stress, I typically gravitate towards open-world games over multiplayer experiences. However, I do make an exception for ranked fighting matches. In essence, the dopamine rush I experience from outmaneuvering my opponent is undeniable.
Yet, the downside of ranked matches is the persistent overthinking and reflection that accompanies witnessing my ranks fluctuate. I’ve always felt an unwarranted pressure to demonstrate my skill as a Tekken player. This was exacerbated by Tekken 8’s real-time ranking system, ultimately spoiling the experience.
That changed when I installed and tried out the tranquility mod. After installing it and playing a few matches, I noticed that I began to stress less about losing and instead concentrated more on the fight itself. This heightened focus has made me more eager to open up Tekken 8 and study my match-ups. Playing as Asuka has never been more enjoyable!
More Games Could Use Some Tranquility
The Tranquility mod made me realize that more game developers should consider adding features that allow players to hide ranks or other competitive indicators. While some may disagree, I believe it helps players who seek the challenge of ranking without the added stress.
I want to express my gratitude to Koenji for creating something like this and enhancing my enjoyment of Tekken 8. If you’re in a similar situation, I recommend trying out the Tekken 8 Tranquility mod to make your ranked experience less stressful.
