Starfield, as an expansive space RPG, has captured the attention of millions of players. Like any RPG, it offers a vast adventure replete with numerous missions and quests. If you’re one of the spacefarers exploring the Starfield universe, you might be curious about the game’s length and the precise number of main quests and missions. To answer these questions, we embarked on the journey ourselves and compiled a comprehensive list of every mission available in Starfield, from start to finish. In addition to the main missions, we’ve also covered all the side activities and faction questlines. Let’s jump in immediately without any more delay.

Total Number of Quests in Starfield

Despite one’s expectations of a complex main storyline with numerous missions, the reality in Starfield is somewhat different. Upon launch, Starfield features a total of 19 main missions. These 19 missions take players on a journey to various planets in search of a valuable artifact. In addition to the main quests, there are three types of quests in Starfield:

  • Side quests: These are encountered while exploring the settled planets in the Starfield universe.
  • Companion quests: These missions are offered by your companions as your bond with them strengthens.
  • Faction quests: These are missions assigned to you after joining one of the four main in-game factions.

Upon completing these curated quests, players will come across procedurally generated questlines known as Radiant Quests. These quests are generated randomly each time you land on a planet and are dependent on the game’s RNG (Random Number Generator).

1. One Small Step

Objective: Your initial task is to mine the artifact. Once you have successfully acquired it, your mission shifts to eliminating members of the Crimson Fleet and making your way to the Lodge to align yourself with Constellation.

This mission serves as the starting point for your adventure in Starfield. It begins with you assuming the role of a miner, tasked with unearthing and extracting a rock. However, what you actually discover during this mining operation is the artifact, an item of great interest to a group known as Constellation. Following an encounter with the Crimson Fleet and the successful elimination of their base at Vectera, you eventually rendezvous with Constellation. This marks the point at which Sarah Morgan becomes your first human companion in the game.

2. The Old Neighborhood

Objective: Your goal is to retrieve the artifact from Moara.

In this mission, you and Sarah journey to the Sol System to secure the second artifact. After reuniting with an old contact on Mars, your mission is to locate an individual named Moara who possesses the artifact you seek. However, things take a turn for the worse as Moara goes missing near Venus. You embark on a search mission and ultimately rescue Moara from spacers, successfully acquiring the second artifact.

3. The Empty Nest

Objective: Your task is to gather information about the next artifact at Akila City with Sam Coe.

During this mission, you are introduced to Sam Coe, an ex-FreeStar Ranger and a member of Constellation, along with his daughter Cora Coe. After a brief conversation with the Coe family, your journey takes you to Akila City, where the next artifact is believed to be located. However, upon your arrival, you are faced with a bank heist that requires your intervention to thwart. Following the acquisition of information from GalBank and the successful persuasion of Sam’s father, you ultimately uncover the artifact within the Shaw Gang territory. Swiftly dealing with the gang members enables you to secure your next artifact.

4. Back to Vectera

Objective: Your mission is to rescue Barrett and Heller from the Crimson Fleet.

In this mission, you revisit Vectera, the location where you initially encountered Barrett, the first Constellation member you met. Regrettably, after the earlier encounter with the Crimson Fleet, both Barrett and Heller, a fellow miner, have gone missing. You engage in a thorough investigation and successfully rescue Heller from a crashed spaceship, after which you proceed to Bessel 3 to rescue Barrett.

5. Into the Unknown

Objective: Your mission involves assisting Andreja in obtaining a piece of the artifact and subsequently investigating the anomaly at Procyon 3.

During this mission, you become acquainted with the Constellation Spaceport, referred to as the Eye, and meet Vladimir, who instructs you to aid another Constellation member, Andreja, in acquiring a portion of the artifact. Upon completing this task, you proceed to Procyon 3 to investigate an anomaly, which ultimately leads you to an artifact temple that unlocks your unique powers.

6. All That Money Can Buy

Objective: Assist Walter in negotiating and purchasing the artifact at Neon

In this mission, your goal is to work alongside Walter, Constellation’s benefactor, to help him secure the next piece of the artifact in Neon. Your task is to provide assistance to Walter during the negotiation process and ensure the successful acquisition of the artifact without encountering any complications.

7. Starborn

Objective: Escape the Starborns

As you depart from Neon’s surface, the enigmatic Starborn group confronts you, demanding the artifact’s surrender. Your objective is to avoid any altercation with the Starborns and safely return to the Lodge, where you can safeguard the artifact in the collection and brace for a new impending threat.

8. Further into the Unknown

Objective: Collect artifact fragments from two distinct planets while contending with the interference of Starborn members who will attempt to prevent your progress.

The Constellation directs you to visit two distinct planets, each hosting additional artifact pieces. While exploring these planets, you’ll encounter the Starborn, who will attempt to obstruct your progress. You must eliminate the Starborn members on the second planet to acquire the artifact pieces successfully. The mission concludes as you return these pieces to the Lodge.

9. Short-Sighted

Objective: Help fix the Eye

In a brief intermission between more action-packed missions, you journey to the Eye to assist Vladimir and other members in repairing the facility. After completing this task, you prepare for your upcoming adventure.

10. No Sudden Moves

Objective: Obtain the piece of the artifact from the Scow

Before beginning this mission, it’s advisable to create a custom save. Vladimir directs players to visit the salvage vessel Scow, which is owned by Captain Petrov. Players are paired with the member they have the least chemistry with, while those with high chemistry are held back at the Eye. This mission is essentially a large-scale heist, during which players can either persuade the captain to hand over the artifact or steal it from them. Regardless of the outcome, players will become wanted by UC (Unified Colonies) for the artifact. This is a crucial time to review our contraband guide. It’s worth noting that proceeding to the Lodge will immediately initiate the next mission, with potentially dire consequences.

11. High Price to Pay

Objective: Either protect the Lodge or protect the Eye

Immediately after placing the artifact at the Lodge, Vladimir informs players of an attack on the Eye by the Starborn. At this point, you have a choice: you can either stay at the Lodge to protect its members, in which case the companion with the strongest bond back at the Eye dies. Alternatively, if you return to the Eye and assist them, the Hunter kills the companion with the least bond at the Lodge. Regardless of your choice, players inform Vladimir, holding the artifact pieces, and then return to New Atlantis to meet with Matteo and assess the destruction wrought by the elusive Hunter.

12. Missed Beyond Measures

Objective: Attend the funeral of the deceased Constellation member

This mission is an emotional one, with players returning to the Lodge to attend the memorial of the deceased companion. Much of this mission involves conversations and discussions with fellow members and Noel, reflecting on the events of the previous mission.

13. Unity

Objective: Find clues about Unity

In this mission, Matteo accompanies us to meet with Keeper Aquilus to uncover the meaning of “Unity,” a word uttered by the Hunter during the attack on the Lodge. To solve this mystery, players must travel to various planets, collecting clues about Unity. Upon completing this mission, players come face to face with the Hunter, leading into the next quest.

14. In Their Footsteps

Objective: Visit the Starborn ship Scorpius

Following the completion of the previous mission, players find themselves in a new star system that unveils the whereabouts of the Starborn ship Scorpius. During this encounter, players engage in conversations with the Hunter and the Emissary, gaining insight into the nature of Unity. As they depart, players are entrusted with the key to the Nova Galactic Research Station on the moon of Earth.

15. Unearthed

Objective: Travel Over the Nova Galactic Research Station and NASA

This mission, intricately linked with the events of previous missions in Starfield, guides players through the Nova Galactic Research Station, where they embark on a quest for answers following their encounter with the Scorpius. Players also receive extensive insights into the history of Earth’s transformation into a desolate expanse. Additionally, the mission leads players to the NASA base and presents them with the choice to align with either the Emissary or the Hunter.

16. Final Glimpses

Objective: Visit the Starborn ship Scorpius

Upon returning to the Lodge, Vladimir directs players toward the remaining artifacts. One planet is randomized, while the other is Freya 3, requiring a superior grav drive. After reaching Freya 3, players receive a distress call from the Nishina Research Station, leading them to offer assistance to the individual in need.

17. Entangled

Objective: Travel to Nishina Research Station to respond to the distress call

Players journey to Hyetta 3 to answer the distress call received during the previous questline at the Nishina Research Station. This mission introduces a horror theme, as players are transported to an alternate reality and encounter the Cataxi.

18. Revelation

Objective: Discover the buried temple at Masada 3

The penultimate mission in Starfield is a highly action-packed quest with a heavy focus on combat. Players are assigned to venture to Masada 3, where they encounter the Starborns awaiting them. The side players have chosen to support in the “Unearthed” mission will determine who assists them. The primary objective is to locate the buried temple, secure the final artifact, and successfully conclude the mission.

19. One Giant Leap

Objective: Build the Armillary

The concluding mission in Starfield revolves around players constructing an Armillary and initiating a Grav Jump to the Unity. This mission serves as an epilogue to the journey, and we refrain from divulging any spoilers regarding the ending. Nevertheless, it ultimately comes down to selecting one of two possible endings, each of which brings about distinct changes to the story.
