In GTA 5, money is always in demand especially when you’ve got a variety of luxury cars and high-end aircraft to buy. While completing the main storyline and choosing the most profitable outcomes rewards players with a significant cash boost, it often still falls short for purchasing every property and vehicle in the game. This is why many players turn to money glitches and exploits to get some extra funds. If you’re looking to do the same, here are some money glitches to try in GTA 5 Story Mode.
1. Hidden Packages Money Glitch
In GTA 5’s single-player mode, there are around 12 hidden package locations scattered across Los Santos, most of which are tucked away underwater. These collectible cases contain varying amounts of cash. All you need to do is dive down to the ocean floor and collect them. The most valuable one is located near Pacific Bluffs and holds $25,000—and with a clever trick, you can turn it into an unlimited money source.
To pull this off, head to the marked location on the map and dive into the water. Once submerged, perform a manual quicksave and make sure autosave is disabled. Swim down to the wrecked submarine and grab the hidden package. After surfacing, quicksave again. Now, reload your saved game and return to the submarine if done right, the package will have respawned while your previous money remains intact. If the package doesn’t reappear, you can reload your original save and try again.
2. Lester’s Assassination Missions
While not a glitch, this method is a smart way to maximize your in-game earnings. Lester’s Assassination missions revolve around eliminating high-profile individuals tied to major corporations within the GTA world. These hits cause the stock prices of targeted companies to plummet, while their rivals’ shares often surge in value. The trick is to invest heavily in the right stocks before and after each mission—and then sell them at their peak for maximum profit.
To make the most money possible, it’s best to save these missions until after completing the main storyline, specifically after finishing The Third Way. Once you’re ready, refer to a reliable guide on GTA 5 stock tips to help you play the market and cash in big.
3. Playing the Stock Market
Unlike the predictable stock shifts during Lester’s missions, regular stock market investing in GTA 5 can be a bit more unpredictable but still highly profitable. To begin, open the stock market app on your character’s phone and navigate to the LCN section. From there, locate and purchase shares in eCola (ECL). Be sure to disable autosave before making a large investment.
To help drive up eCola’s stock value, roam the map and destroy any Sprunk vending machines you come across. A good place to start is the Pleasure Pier near Vespucci Beach, where several machines are usually found. Just be careful not to damage any eCola machines during your spree, as that would negatively impact your investment.
Once you’ve destroyed at least four vending machines, head back to your character’s safehouse and sleep three to four times. This skips enough in-game time around 24 hours for the stock market to reflect the changes. You should then see a positive return percentage for eCola in your portfolio. This trick can be done repeatedly, but it’s smart to save your game beforehand to avoid any unwanted losses. You can also experiment with this method using car or life insurance stocks just make sure to take out whatever those policies are protecting to trigger a boost.
4. Armored Truck Money Trick
While roaming the streets of Los Santos, you might spot armored trucks marked with green circles on your minimap. These vehicles contain small cash stashes that can be accessed by blasting open the rear doors. Although each truck doesn’t hold a huge sum, there’s a clever exploit you can use to farm them for unlimited money.
In order to get this, you need to go for Michael and take out the armored truck driver to get control of the vehicle. Then, drive it to Michael’s house and park it inside the garage. Exit the truck, plant sticky bombs on the rear doors, and detonate them to release the cash. Collect the money, head into the house, and sleep to pass time. When you return to the garage, you’ll find the truck fully restored with the back doors sealed once again. Repeat the process to keep collecting money as many times as you’d like.
5. Ammu-Nation Cash Register Glitch in GTA 5
This simple money glitch won’t make you rich, but it’s a handy trick for earning some fast cash in GTA 5 Story Mode. Visit the Ammu-Nation store in La Mesa and take out the shopkeeper. Once he’s down, grab the money from the register and step outside. Cross the street to put some distance between you and the store, then head back inside. You’ll notice the shop is empty but the register has refilled. You can repeat this process whenever you need a quick cash boost.
And that brings us to the end of our list of the best GTA 5 money glitches in story mode. If there’s a popular exploit we didn’t cover, feel free to drop it in the comments!
