Gliding has been a core feature in Fortnite since day one, and up until now, there’s only been one way to use it. Whether launching from a jump pad or the battle bus, completing the entire glide was necessary. However, a new Fortnite leak indicates that Epic Games is testing a “Release Glider” mechanic, which could significantly alter how players navigate the map and survive.
According to renowned Fortnite leaker @Wensoing, the new feature allows players to open and then release their glider mid-air, a capability that hasn’t been available in the game’s main modes before. Another well-known creator, @HYPEX, also confirmed this with a new post on X.
How the New Gliding Mechanic in Fortnite Could Function
Gliding has always been a crucial movement tool in Fortnite, typically tied to launch pads, reboots, or special items like Rift-To-Gos. While the redeploy feature was available earlier in Fortnite, this new mechanic might function differently. Allowing players to release their glider at any time could introduce new movement strategies, but it also comes with significant risks.
If players drop from too high without redeploying, they’ll take fall damage or even be eliminated. This mechanic appears to be in early testing, and it’s still unclear if or when it will be released publicly. However, if it does, it could have a major impact on both early-game and late-game battles. Currently, the old glider release mechanic is only available in Team Rumble mode.
This new gliding mechanic could provide skilled players with more control during rotations and aerial combat. However, one wrong move could result in an early elimination. For now, the glider release mechanic is still part of the leaks, but if it’s introduced in a future update, it could change how players approach vertical movement. It would add a high-skill element to an already fast-paced game. With rumors of a gun-free Fortnite season, the game is set to become even more of a superhero-themed experience soon.
