Elden Ring Nightreign is a cooperative spin-off that puts a strong focus on multiplayer gameplay. Teams of three players embark on a roguelite journey through Limveld, a magical open world filled with enemies, treasures, and interesting locations. True to FromSoftware’s style, the game features intense boss battles, including confrontations with a figure called the Nightlord. However, the term “Nightlord” doesn’t refer to just a single entity, which has led to some confusion among fans. To clear things up, we’ve compiled everything you need to know about the Nightlord in Elden Ring Nightreign so far.
Who Is the Nightlord in Elden Ring Nightreign?
In simple terms, the ‘Nightlord’ is the final boss in Elden Ring Nightreign. Each session of the game is divided into three days, with the challenge increasing each day. On the last day, players face off against one of eight tough Nightlord bosses, marking the climax of the gameplay session.
Nightreign follows a run-based format, so you’ll need to complete several playthroughs to experience all that Limveld holds, including every Nightlord boss. These epic battles take place on the night of the third day, where you’re transported to the fight through special doors.
Like we mentioned before, the Nightlord boss varies with each run, with a total of eight different ones to face. We’ve already seen Gladious, the three-headed dog, showcased in the Elden Ring Nightreign reveal. An IGN First YouTube video gave us a glimpse of the second Nightlord, called Libra. This foe combines Golden Order magic with Frenzied-Flame spells and packs a range of melee attacks, making him a formidable opponent.
Besides their role as bosses, Nightlords hold important lore significance within the Lands Between. Sharp-eyed fans have been analyzing trailer hints, and the common theory is that there might be one ultimate entity called the Nightlord, whose roots go all the way back to the Nox.
Elden Ring fans will recognize the Nox as an ancient race that lived in the underground Eternal Cities of Nokron and Nokstella. In Nightreign’s reveal trailer, there’s a scene showing a character climbing a wall in a location that resembles the architecture of those Eternal Cities. Additionally, Nightreign includes Ant enemies, similar to the creatures players battled in Nokstella.
All these clues suggest that the Nox will play a key part in the game’s main story. Many players online believe this ruthless race might be trying to conquer the Lands Between, with the Nightlord at the forefront of their assault. That said, it’s all just speculation until the game is released.
