When Can You Expect Android 14 to Be Released?

After undergoing two developer previews and receiving more than 11 Beta updates on Pixel devices, Google is nearing the release of Android 14, the latest iteration of its mobile operating system. While Android 14 may not introduce groundbreaking features and sweeping UI changes like its predecessor, Android 12, it does bring several quality improvements and minor enhancements to enhance the user experience. In this article, let’s focus on when you can expect to receive the stable Android 14 update on your Pixel device.

If you own an Android device from a different manufacturer, you can refer to our list of Android 14 compatible devices, where we have compiled information about various OEMs and their devices that may receive the Android 14 update in the future.

If you own a Pixel device, starting from the Pixel 4a 5G, you can anticipate receiving the Android 14 update on October 4, coinciding with the launch of the Pixel 8 series. Initially, Android 14 was slated for release on September 4, based on updates to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) tree. However, the release has been postponed to the following month. For those who may have lost track of which Google devices are eligible for the update, here’s a comprehensive list:

  • Pixel 4a 5G
  • Pixel 5 / Pixel 5a
  • Pixel 6 / 6 Pro / 6a
  • Pixel 7 / 7 Pro / 7a
  • Pixel Fold
  • Pixel Tablet
  • Pixel 8 (Pre-installed Android 14)

All Pixel devices in Google’s portfolio are expected to receive the Android 14 update on the same day. As for other smartphone manufacturers like OnePlus and Samsung, which initially planned to release Android 14 updates in the same month as Google, it remains uncertain whether Google has imposed any embargoes that could lead manufacturers to postpone their updates to October. The good news is that we have a confirmed release date, albeit one month away.

If you’re eager to try out Android 14 and don’t mind the occasional bug, you can enroll your Pixel device in the Beta program. The Beta version has now reached platform stability and should be relatively stable. However, if you prefer a bug-free experience, it might be a wise choice to wait until the official Android 14 release date.
