Nothing Phone (3): Expected Launch Date, Speculation on Specifications, Leaked Details, and More

2024 has been an exceptional year for Nothing, largely due to the successful launch of the Nothing Phone (2a). Recently, the company also unveiled its latest audio offering, the Ear and Ear (a). With the anticipation building, it’s almost time for Nothing to unveil its new flagship, the Nothing Phone (3). While there are no concrete reports on its imminent release, analyzing the current smartphone market and trends allows for speculation regarding the potential specifications of the Phone (3).

Anticipated Release Date for Nothing Phone (3)

Expected to debut around September, the Phone (3) follows the previous launch timeline of the Phone (2) in July last year. However, considering the positive reception of the Phone (2a) — which was released in March, followed by a new color variant in April — Nothing might prolong the hype, potentially pushing the Phone (3)’s launch to September or October. Of course, this speculation is subject to change.

Optimizing Performance: Which Snapdragon Processor Should You Choose?

Since the unveiling of the Phone (2a), a prominent question has loomed: which Qualcomm processor will power the Phone (3)? With the latest releases of Snapdragon SoCs, this question gains clarity. It’s likely that the Nothing Phone (3) will adopt the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. In a comparison between Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and 8s Gen 3, while the former boasts a superior multicore score, the latter offers slightly improved power efficiency.

It wouldn’t come as a surprise if Nothing opts for the more budget-friendly SoC option. While the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is older than the 8s Gen 3, it’s uncertain if it still commands a higher price per unit. The performance leaks of the Phone (3) would shed light on this matter.

Nothing Phone (3): Redefining Design

As a member of Nothing’s design team, deciding on the next steps for the Phone’s design would indeed be a head-scratcher. While Nothing’s design philosophy has proven successful with the Phone (1) and (2), there’s a challenge in determining how to evolve it further.

Speculating about the design of the Phone (3) is tricky, but it’s a safe bet that it will maintain some signature features like the transparent back and Glyph interface. Although there’s no concrete speculation, some design concepts were explored in a Nothing Phone (3) op-ed we published. We’ll keep you updated as soon as any renders surface.

Cameras

Currently, there’s no available information regarding the camera setup for the Nothing Phone (3). Both the Phone (1) and Phone (2) boasted dual-rear cameras, with the primary serving as a wide-angle lens and the secondary as an ultrawide snapper.

One of the most requested enhancements for the Nothing Phone (3) is likely the inclusion of a Telephoto lens, either by replacing the ultrawide lens or by adding a third camera altogether. Whether Nothing addresses this demand remains uncertain.

Battery and Charging

Similarly, details about the battery size and charging capabilities of the Phone (3) are still unknown. The Phone (2) boasted a 4,700 mAh battery with 45W charging capabilities, while the Phone (2a) sported a larger 5,000 mAh battery. It’s plausible that the Phone (3) could feature a 5,000 mAh battery and see an increase in charging speeds to 65 or 67W. Additionally, improvements in wireless charging speeds are also anticipated.

Enhancing Software and Connectivit

Nothing is currently working on Nothing OS 3.0, slated to debut alongside the Nothing Phone (3). What we know so far is that it will undergo a makeover, particularly with the Quick Settings panel, to align with Nothing’s distinctive aesthetic. The company has actively sought user feedback on how to enhance this panel.

Additionally, Nothing is in the process of developing gallery and community apps, which are likely to be integrated into Nothing OS 3.0. While the specifics of their UI direction have yet to be disclosed, given their track record, anticipation is high for something innovative.

Regarding the hardware, the Phone (3) is expected to feature a USB 2.0 Type-C port, support for essential 5G and 4G bands, as well as Wi-Fi 7/6E/5/2.4 GHz connectivity, and dual SIM card slots.

Storage and RAM

Once again, details about the storage variants for the Nothing Phone (3) are unavailable. However, if we were to speculate, it might be offered in three configurations: 8 GB + 128 GB, 12 GB + 256 GB, and 12 GB + 512 GB. It’s likely that Nothing will stick with UFS 3.1 and LPDDR5X RAM across all variants to maintain cost-effectiveness.

Color Variants and Pricing

As for color options, there’s no information available yet. However, it’s conceivable that Nothing will stick to its classic White and Grey hues (or variations of Grey). While they may introduce a new color variant as they did with the Phone (2a), this is purely speculative.

In terms of pricing, we anticipate it will remain consistent, mirroring the Phone (2) at around Rs 45,000, $699, €729, and £579. While future iterations like the Phone (4) may see experimentation with pricing, for now, maintaining stability in the market will likely be the priority for Nothing, hence keeping the price of the Phone (3) unchanged.

Nothing Phone (3): My Dream Features

Here are some features I’d love to see in the Nothing Phone (3).

  • Replace the Ultrawide camera with a 3X Telephoto lens.
  • Improve both wired and wireless charging speeds.
  • Expand Glyph integration to more applications.
  • Upgrade to USB 3.2 with video output capability.
  • Commit to providing four years of major software updates.
