CMF Phone 1: Leaked Specs, Design, Price and More

Nothing excels at teasing its upcoming products, but the brand’s recent tweets about the upcoming CMF-branded phone have been quite intriguing. CMF’s first smartphone is almost here, and based on the leaks and teasers so far, it’s shaping up to be an exciting product. To keep you informed on all the leaked details, from design and specs to pricing, we’ve put together this comprehensive overview of the CMF Phone 1.

CMF Phone 1: Display and Build

Nothing posted on X that the CMF Phone 1 might have a plastic back, but it will be replaceable, as suggested by a tiny screw on the lower side of the device. Some reports also suggest that certain variants may come with vegan leather back panels. Additionally, the company released a 15-second video teaser highlighting the physical dial on the Phone 1 and the CMF Buds 2. Interestingly, the video suggests that the lanyard dial on the Phone 1 may not sit flush with the back of the device.

Additionally, the CMF by Nothing X account posted a teaser confirming the CMF Phone 1 nomenclature and revealing more design elements. The image showcases the device in an orange colorway, featuring a circular knob on the right side, which is believed to be a lanyard dial.

While the complete design of the CMF Phone 1 isn’t entirely clear from the previous and latest images in various colorways, here’s a fan-made render illustrating how the device might look in different colors.

Moving to the front, we expect the CMF Phone 1 to feature a 6.67-inch 120Hz Full-HD+ AMOLED display with a punch-hole camera, similar to the Nothing Phone (2a). However, that’s the extent of what is currently known.

Some leaks suggest the bezels might be thicker, which would be a significant differentiating factor between the CMF Phone 1 and the Phone (2a). This makes sense, given that the CMF Phone 1 is intended to be a budget offering and will be priced lower than the Phone (2a).

The CMF Phone 1’s back will be devoid of Glyph lights, marking a significant departure from all previous Nothing phone designs. The rear panel will feature two cameras on the left side.

The CMF Phone 1 will also feature a screw on the back and will be accompanied by a screwdriver that serves as a SIM ejector tool. While there is no official explanation for this mechanism, many speculate that it is due to the device’s removable back design.

Phone 1: Leaked Specifications

Nothing has officially confirmed that the CMF Phone 1 will run on the MediaTek Dimensity 7300. For those who are not familiar, the Dimensity 7300 is an octa-core chipset comprising 4 x Cortex-A78 cores and 4 x Cortex-A55 cores. It is manufactured using TSMC’s 4nm process and is reported to offer a 5% performance improvement over the MediaTek Dimensity 7200.

The Dimensity 7300 is expected to provide the Phone 1 with a excellent price-to-performance ratio, similar to its counterpart, the Dimensity 7200. The phone will likely feature UFS 2.2 storage and LPDDR4X RAM. Additionally, the base variant is confirmed to offer 128 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM.

CMF Phone 1: Software and Battery

The leaked images of the Phone 1 suggest that the device will run on the latest version of Nothing OS, specifically Nothing OS 2.6.0. It will launch with Android 14 pre-installed. However, being a mid-range offering, it is rumored to receive up to two major Android updates and three years of security patches.

According to leaked images, the battery is expected to be a 5,000 mAh unit, similar to the Phone 2a. Rumors indicate the charging speed could be 33W, notably lower than its cousin’s 45W fast charging capability.

Phone 1: Potential Camera Setup

The CMF Phone 1 is speculated to sport dual cameras arranged vertically on the left side, contrasting with the Phone 2a’s central camera setup. The primary camera is likely to be the same 50MP Samsung GN9 wide sensor used in the Phone 2a, while the secondary camera could be a downgraded 2 MP depth sensor instead of the 50MP ultra-wide camera found on the 2a.

The primary camera is expected to lack optical image stabilization (OIS) but may feature electronic image stabilization (EIS). The punch-hole selfie camera is anticipated to be a 16 MP sensor.

Regarding connectivity, similarities with the Phone 2a are expected, including Wi-Fi 6 support, Bluetooth 5.3, dual-SIM card slots, and a USB 2.0 Type-C port. However, rumors suggest that the CMF Phone 1 might omit NFC, a feature present in the Phone 2a.

CMF Phone 1: Leaked Price

The absence of Glyph lighting, slower charging, and a less premium build compared to other Nothing devices could significantly lower the cost of the CMF Phone 1.

According to a prominent tipster, Yogesh Brar, the rumored retail price of the Phone 1 is Rs. 19,999 in India, which is Rs. 4,000 less than the Nothing Phone 2a. While there are no accompanying images as evidence, Yogesh’s reliable track record lends credibility to the leak.

In conclusion, Nothing has yet to confirm the official specifications and pricing beyond the SoC and connectivity details, so it’s advisable to approach leaks and rumors with caution. Overall, the Phone 1 appears to be positioning itself as a strong contender in the sub-Rs 20,000 price segment in India. The CMF Phone 1 is scheduled to launch on July 8 alongside the CMF Buds Pro 2 and CMF Watch Pro 2.
