Google has unveiled a range of AI enhancements at Cloud Next 2024, with a focus on enhancing its Workspace suite. Among the notable additions is Google Vids, described as a video creation, writing, production, and editing assistant that will soon be available as a Workspace app.
The primary function of this feature is to enable users to create content such as team recaps, announcements, and training reels using generative AI. Once it’s launched, users will be able to click on the “Help me create a video” prompt and provide details such as their goal, target audience, and desired video length. Additionally, users can attach other files, and Vids will generate snippets that can be rearranged as needed.
Users will be guided to choose a video style from a variety of options. Once selected, Vids will compile a draft with suggested scenes using stock videos, images, and background music. Vids will also assist in the voiceover process if users opt to add their own voice, offering the option to select an AI preset voice to streamline the process.
Regarding the rollout of Google Vids in Workspace, Google plans to assess feedback from the initial release before deciding on broader availability. The initial testing and rollout are scheduled to commence in June of this year.
Vids will be accessible as a web app, joining Docs, Slides, Sheets, and Slides, featuring an “easy-to-use” and collaborative user interface.
