The Sony PlayStation 5 is undoubtedly a highly successful gaming console with millions of users in its ecosystem. As you might be aware, the company recently updated the PS5 with a slimmer design. This update significantly altered the overall design of the PlayStation 5, making it slimmer and more compact. While the official launch date is still a few days away, we already have a good idea of what it will look like, thanks to some real-life images.
Comparison: PS5 vs PS5 Slim – Side-by-Side Analysis
The real-life images were shared by an X user (formerly on Twitter) known as @Zuby_Tech. The post showcases both the original PS5 and the recently released PS5 Slim models side by side. It’s evident at first glance that there’s a noticeable design evolution at play. The newer console is considerably slimmer and smaller than its older counterpart. This transformation has been made possible due to a more efficient internal processor design. The weight of the PS5 Slim is also 24% lighter, coming in at 3.2kg. All in all, the PS5 Slim appears to be much more portable and compact.
The glossy finish on the new side covers of the PS5 Slim, which also feature a duo-tone design, is clearly visible. Additionally, when comparing the back and top sides of the PlayStation 5 Slim to the older model, it’s evident that the new PS5 Slim is considerably more compact in these views.
The company also introduced a detachable disk drive. Leaked setup images revealed that you need an internet connection to pair the disk drive with the PS5 before you can use it.
Keep in mind that the new PlayStation 5 ‘Slim’ console isn’t officially referred to by Sony under the ‘Slim’ moniker. However, it’s worth noting that much of the community is unofficially referring to the new redesign as the PS5 Slim. Both the new and old models are simply called PS5 by Sony. Apart from aesthetics, Sony also upgraded the internal storage to 1TB on the new PlayStation 5 Slim model.
