Last month, we discussed WhatsApp’s upcoming feature allowing users to set it as the default calling app on iPhones. But before that rolls out, WhatsApp is focusing on enhancing its calling experience further by adding a new mute option, the ability to turn off the camera before answering a call, and emoji reactions for video calls.
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp Beta version 2.25.10.16 for Android introduces these calling improvements. As seen in the screenshots, the app will now display a Mute option directly in the notification shade during an ongoing call. Currently, only the end call button appears there, and users must open the app to mute a call.

WhatsApp is also adding a much-needed feature that allows users to turn off their video before answering incoming video calls. This gives you the flexibility to decline video if you’re not in a suitable situation to be seen something users have been requesting for a while. Currently, you can’t disable video unless you’ve already accepted the call.
On top of that, WhatsApp will introduce emoji reactions during video calls, letting users respond with up to six different emojis. This feature will add a fun, interactive layer to video chats and could be especially handy during group calls, where you can quickly express agreement with something like a thumbs-up emoji.
All of these updates are currently rolling out to a limited number of beta testers, but they’re expected to reach all users in the coming months. While these might seem like small tweaks, they significantly improve the overall user experience and it’s great to see WhatsApp paying attention to such practical details.
