After a long wait, MediaTek has officially unveiled its flagship Dimensity 9400 chipset, featuring Arm’s latest Cortex-X925 big core. This premium processor boasts a robust CPU designed on the Armv9.2 architecture and manufactured using TSMC’s second-generation N3E node. Additionally, it comes with larger CPU caches for enhanced performance.
The Dimensity 9400 features a single Cortex-X925 prime core clocked at 3.63GHz, alongside three Cortex-X4 cores running at 3.30GHz and four Cortex-A720 cores at 2.40GHz. This octa-core configuration is designed to deliver impressive performance, and Arm claims that the new Cortex-X925 core offers a 15% increase in instructions per cycle (IPC) for single-threaded tasks compared to the Cortex-X4.
A leaked Geekbench benchmark for the Dimensity 9400 reveals scores of 3,010 in the single-core test and 8,686 in the multi-core test. The Dimensity 9400 significantly outperforms the Apple A18 Pro in multi-core performance and nearly matches the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 in single-core performance. In terms of efficiency, MediaTek claims that the Dimensity 9400 is 40% more power-efficient than last year’s Dimensity 9300.
Immortalis-G925 MC12 GPU
For the GPU, MediaTek has chosen Arm’s premium Immortalis-G925 MC12 GPU, which enhances ray tracing graphics performance while minimizing power consumption. According to MediaTek, the new Immortalis-G925 GPU in the Dimensity 9400 delivers approximately 40% faster graphics performance while being 44% more power-efficient.
Additionally, the GPU supports MediaTek’s HyperEngine gaming technologies, including Frame Rate Converter, Super Resolution, and Adaptive Gaming Technology 3.0, ensuring sustained frame rates while maintaining impressive graphics quality.
MediaTek NPU 890
Turning to the NPU (AI Processing Unit), the Dimensity 9400 is equipped with MediaTek’s latest NPU 890. MediaTek claims that this 8th-generation NPU unlocks agentic AI capabilities on the device. Developers can utilize the Dimensity Agentic AI Engine (DAE) to create new AI experiences and features.
Additionally, MediaTek states that the NPU in the Dimensity 9400 can generate high-quality on-device AI videos and facilitate on-device LoRA training. It also supports Mixture of Experts (MoE) LLMs and multimodal AI. Furthermore, MediaTek has optimized the Dimensity 9400 for Google’s Gemini Nano model, enhancing its multimodal capabilities.
