Expanding its audio wearable lineup beyond in-ear and half-ear designs, Nothing officially launched the Ear (open) today. The announcement video also introduced the next iteration of its software, Nothing OS 3.0, which looks fantastic and meets many community requests. However, you might have missed a playful Easter egg featuring the Nothing Phone (3) that the Carl Pei-led company cleverly included in the video.
As mentioned in the title, the announcement video references the Nothing Phone (3) to build excitement for the company’s upcoming flagship smartphone. While discussing the software development team’s shift from N-Dot to Sans Serif typography for a cleaner aesthetic, the camera pans over several Nothing OS 3.0 mockups on the table.
At this point, you can spot the redesigned Nothing OS 3.0 settings app, which includes the text “Finish setting up Phone (3)” at the top. If you scrub to the 6:54 mark in the video, you’ll see this text with a yellow background on the Settings page.
Now, looking at the image above, it’s unclear whether the device shown is the Nothing Phone (3) featuring a new design or merely a dummy mockup used by the software team has in place to test the updated UI and design changes in the software.. However, one thing is certain: the Nothing team is actively working on the Phone (3), and its launch is likely imminent.
At this point, not much concrete information is available regarding the design and specifications of the Nothing Phone (3). I’m eager to see how the team will enhance the Glyph Interface design to make it more functional, along with the AI features that Pei mentioned previously. I just hope they steer clear of copying the iPhone 16 camera control button; they’ve already borrowed the iOS app drawer, and it didn’t turn out well.
I know fans are also keen to learn about the chipset that will power the next smartphone and whether it will feature more than two rear cameras. What are your expectations for the Nothing Phone (3)? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
