PlayStation 6 Rumored to Have 2 SoCs Under Development, Claims Leak

PlayStation 6 -AzMotech

Just weeks after Sony introduced the new PS5 Pro, rumors about the next-gen console are already heating up. A reliable chip leaker has now revealed that Sony PlayStation has two SoCs in development for the PS6.

KeplerL2, a well-known chip leaker, shared this info on the NEOgaf forum. Originally posted under a PS6 price discussion, the topic quickly gained traction. While it’s unclear why the PS6 might have two chips, speculation suggests Sony could be exploring a console and handheld combination.

Alternatively, this could mirror the Xbox Series X/S approach. As Kepler mentioned, “There’s two SoCs in development for next-gen; idk if it’s a Series X/S situation or home console + handheld, but probably one of them will be affordable at least.”

Kepler has a solid track record for these early chip reports, and it seems that the PS6 may include a more budget-friendly version.

Sony PS6: Testing the Handheld Market?

Handheld gaming devices have been gaining popularity, and while PlayStation has introduced a portal device, its reliance on remote play limits its potential compared to competitors.

Whether the PS6 will feature a handheld model or a more affordable console like the Series S remains to be seen. However, one thing is certain, the PS6 chip will be developed by AMD, following Intel’s loss in the bidding process. With backward compatibility expected, even a handheld could handle older PlayStation titles smoothly.

Since there are no official confirmations yet, take this information with caution. However, Kepler’s reliability gives us reason to hope that this report might be accurate. What do you think about Sony working on two SoCs for the PS6? Share your thoughts in the comments!
