Apple’s New AirPods 4 Introduce Pro Features, Including ANC and Enhanced Sound

Announced at today’s ‘Glowtime’ event, Apple is expanding its AirPods lineup with the introduction of the AirPods 4. This new generation includes two variants: the standard AirPods 4 and the AirPods 4 with active noise cancellation (ANC).

AirPods 4 and AirPods 4 ANC Released

Apple is promoting the AirPods 4 as the “most comfortable AirPods ever,” thanks to their use of advanced modeling tools that analyzed thousands of ear shapes to ensure the best possible fit.

Like their predecessor, the new AirPods 4 maintain an open-ear design, even in the ANC variant. It’s surprising to see Apple include active noise cancellation, transparency, and adaptive audio in this open-ear format. Personally, I prefer silicone eartips for a snug fit and better sound isolation, so I’m eager to test how ANC performs with these open-ear AirPods 4.

Both variants of the AirPods 4 are equipped with a new H2 chip and feature an upgraded audio experience thanks to a new acoustic architecture. Additionally, they both include a force sensor, new Siri interactions (such as using head movements to accept or decline calls), personalized spatial audio support, and a USB-C port for charging. This means that all AirPods models now come with a USB-C port, including the newly updated AirPods Max.

In addition to ANC, the premium mid-tier AirPods 4 also come with a case speaker, Find My support, and wireless charging capabilities (compatible with Apple Watch chargers or any Qi charger) as standard features.

The new entry-level AirPods 4 are priced at $129, making them an affordable option for most users. The AirPods 4 with active noise cancellation, however, are priced at $179 due to the added features. Both models are available for pre-order starting today and will begin shipping globally on September 20 (Friday).

The AirPods 4 were introduced alongside the iPhone 16 series and Apple Watch 10. What do you think of these new variants? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
