The iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max already feature sleek bezels and impressive displays. While the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro models will likely build on the iPhone 15 Pro’s design, we can expect some subtle yet significant improvements. Reports suggest that Apple is planning to slightly increase the sizes of the Pro and Pro Max models. Additionally, a recent leak indicates that we may see a substantial reduction in the black bezels around the screen.
According to tipster IceUniverse, the iPhone 16 Pro could potentially surpass the Galaxy S24 to become the world’s phone with the thinnest bezels. If accurate, this would result in an even more stunning display with increased screen real estate.
The tip only pertains to the black border around the screen, with no expected changes to the Dynamic Island cutout design, which will remain the same. However, we might finally experience a truly edge-to-edge screen with no notches when the iPhone 17 Pro arrives in 2025. Face ID components are expected to be hidden beneath the display, with a small circular cutout for the selfie camera being the only visible indicator of Face ID.
This year, the already slim bezels on the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max are set to become even thinner. In comparison to the iPhone 15 Pro’s 1.71mm and the iPhone 14 Pro’s 2.15mm bezels, the iPhone 16 Pro is expected to have 1.2mm bezels, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max will feature even slimmer 1.15mm bezels.
This recent leak confirms earlier supply chain reports, suggesting that Apple plans to implement Border Reduction Structure (BRS) technology to minimize bezels at the bottom of the displays. This technology works by rolling the internal copper wiring into a more compact form. It is rumored that Apple will apply this borderless display technology to all four iPhone 16 models set for release in 2024. In addition to enhancing the phone’s aesthetics, the significant reduction in bezels will result in a larger screen area.
The iPhone 16 Pro will come with a 6.3-inch display, an upgrade from the 6.1-inch display on the iPhone 15 Pro. Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is set to become the largest iPhone ever, with a 6.9-inch display. In addition to these display enhancements, the iPhone 16 Pro models are expected to introduce the new A18 chipset and a “Capture Button” designed for easier recording of horizontal videos. For the first time, the non-Max variant may also feature 5x optical zoom.
Apple is anticipated to follow its usual release schedule, officially launching the iPhone 16 lineup this fall, likely in September.
