After months of speculations and leaks, Apple has at last unveiled the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro Max during its ‘Wonderlust‘ event. These new iPhones succeed the iPhone 14 Pro series and introduce several enhancements, including a USB Type-C port, the new A17 Pro Bionic chipset, and a host of other features. Let’s dive into what these new devices have to offer!
Specifications and Features of iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max
The iPhone 15 Pro models exhibit a design that bears a strong resemblance to their predecessors but feature several notable changes. These phones sport a titanium build, reminiscent of the premium Apple Watch Ultra, offering a sleek and robust chassis for the “most premium” iPhone look. Additionally, the phones incorporate a 100% recyclable aluminum frame, aimed at improving heat dissipation.
A significant and long-awaited change is the inclusion of a USB Type-C 3.0 port, which delivers up to 20 times faster data transfer speeds compared to USB-C 2.0. This marks the first time such a port has been featured in an iPhone. As previously rumored, there’s also the introduction of a customizable Action button, which replaces the traditional mute button that has been a staple in iPhones for years. This Action button allows users to access functions such as the camera, flashlight, translation, and more, enhancing convenience and functionality.
The iPhone 15 Pro models also introduce Dynamic Island. The iPhone 15 Pro boasts a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display, while the 15 Pro Max features a larger 6.7-inch screen. Continuing the tradition of the past two years, both of these phones offer support for a 120Hz refresh rate, thanks to ProMotion, and include the Always-on-Display (AOD) functionality. To enhance durability, the displays are equipped with a layer of Ceramic Shield for added protection.
Beneath the surface, these models are powered by the new A17 Pro Bionic chipset, marking the first instance of the iPhone chipset receiving the Pro branding. This chipset is based on the industry-first 3nm process and features a 6-core CPU and a 6-core GPU, delivering up to 10% faster CPU and 20% faster GPU performance. Additionally, it supports hardware-based ray tracing, contributing to improved graphics performance. The iPhone 15 Pro offers storage options of 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB, while the 15 Pro Max is available in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage configurations.
The camera setup on the iPhone 15 Pro models retains its previous configuration. It includes a 48MP main camera equipped with second-gen OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), along with an ultra-wide lens and a telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, each boasting 12MP resolution. However, a significant distinction arises between the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max in terms of zoom capabilities. The latter supports 5x optical zoom and features a 120mm focal length for improved zooming, a feature that has been anticipated for some time. Both models also incorporate a 12MP selfie camera. Notable camera features include enhanced night mode, macro photography, portrait mode, ProRes video recording, Spatial video for 3D content viewable on the Vision Pro, Smart HDR, and much more.
In addition to their camera capabilities, the new iPhone 15 Pro models offer “all-day” battery life, support for WiFi 6E, and include a next-gen ultrawide band chip, among other features. They run the latest iOS 17, which introduces features like NameDrop, enhancements for the Messages app such as the Check In feature, the StandBy feature, and a host of other improvements and functionalities.
