Rumors of a redesigned Apple Watch have been circulating for quite some time. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of its popular wearable, Apple is expected to introduce a thinner design for the Apple Watch Series. Now, 91Mobiles has revealed raw CAD renders of the Apple Watch Series 10 from industry insiders, providing our first look at the upcoming 2024 model. This special edition may be called the ‘Apple Watch X’ in honor of the milestone.
The renders show that the design changes are not drastic. Instead, it is a straightforward revision of the Apple Watch Series 9, featuring a similar Digital Crown, Side button, and square display. The major change is the inclusion of a larger display. According to 91Mobiles, the renders depict a “larger” model with a 2-inch display, surpassing the Apple Watch Ultra’s 1.93-inch screen. This means the Apple Watch Series 10 will have the largest screen of any Apple Watch to date.
However, the overall dimensions fall between the Series 9 and the Ultra. The alleged schematics show an Apple Watch measuring approximately 46 x 39.7 x 11.6mm. This size makes the upcoming Apple Watch larger than the Series 9 but smaller than the Ultra. From the pictures, it’s difficult to determine if the bezels on the Series 10 display are significantly thinner.
This leak supports analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s reports, which suggested that the new Apple Watch Series 10 will closely align with the dimensions of the Apple Watch Ultra and will be available in 45mm and 49mm screen size options.
Persistent rumors suggest that Apple is planning a radically new generation of Apple Watch that will break band compatibility. Mark Gurman had previously reported that a redesigned “Apple Watch X” is slated for release in either 2024 or 2025 to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the device. Apple first announced the original Apple Watch in September 2014 and released it in April 2015. Gurman mentioned that the “Apple Watch X” could include a thinner case and a magnetic band attachment system. However, the recent renders show no such evidence.
Currently, the accuracy of the CAD renders remains uncertain. We’ll gain a clearer picture as more leaks emerge in the coming weeks.
Apple is expected to launch new Apple Watch models in September, alongside the next-generation iPhone models. In addition to new sizes, Apple plans to incorporate new health sensors that will reportedly measure blood pressure and detect hypertension and sleep apnea.
