It could be a significant year for Apple Watch. Rumors of a redesign have been circulating for some time. According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, this year’s Apple Watch Series 10 is expected to undergo a major overhaul with larger display options and a slimmer design.
In a recent Medium post, Kuo stated that the screen sizes for the 2024 Apple Watch will increase from 41mm to 45mm and from 45mm to 49mm, alongside a thinner profile. This represents a notable shift. The new form factors with larger displays would make the smallest Apple Watch Series 10 comparable in size to the current larger model of the Series 9, while the new larger model would align with the screen size of the Apple Watch Ultra.
Interestingly, the claim of a thinner design aligns with Mark Gurman’s recent report about Apple’s plans for slimmer models across upcoming iPhone, Watch, and MacBook Pro releases. Earlier this year, Apple introduced its thinnest product yet, the 13-inch iPad Pro M4, suggesting a trend towards thinner devices for its 2024 lineup.
Kuo also noted that the Apple Watch Ultra will remain largely unchanged this year, although Apple may introduce a new dark or black case color option for the first time.
Later in the year, Apple will begin using 3D printing technology to manufacture components for the Apple Watch, following rigorous testing to enhance production efficiency. According to Kuo, BLT will be the supplier of these 3D-printed components.
Mark Gurman previously reported that the 2024 Apple Watch might bear the name “Apple Watch X” in honor of the device’s 10th anniversary. However, recent reports from Kuo do not mention this possibility. Gurman also mentioned Apple’s exploration of a magnetic band attachment system for a slimmer chassis.
It remains uncertain whether this system will be ready for the 2024 Apple Watch. More clarity is expected as additional rumors emerge in the coming months. The Apple Watch Series 10 is anticipated to launch later this year, alongside the new iPhones.
