Certainly, the music streaming landscape is largely dominated by Spotify, despite the presence of competitors such as YouTube Music and Apple Music. Spotify’s continuous testing and introduction of numerous features keep it at the forefront for many users. Now, Spotify is experimenting with an intriguing new feature that adds an element of surprise to the songs you share with others.
Spotify Explores a Fresh Approach to Music Sharing
Spotify is currently experimenting with a novel feature called “Share it as an audio surprise,” as discovered by X (formerly Twitter) user Saadh Jawwadh. This feature aims to add an element of fun and mystery to the audio-sharing experience. When enabled, it allows users to conceal the album art of a song and replace it with a virtual gift wrap before sharing it with others, such as friends or family.
In practice, once the “audio surprise” feature is chosen, the album art and song details are hidden, and instead, the recipient sees a wrapped gift. To reveal the song and its details, the recipient needs to click on the “Play on Spotify” option.
This discovery follows Spotify’s previous testing of a “song lyrics” feature, which was a paid feature on the platform. According to CJ Stanley, the co-head of global communications at Spotify, revealed to The Verge this decision to test new features is part of ongoing experimentation. It remains uncertain whether this particular feature will be officially rolled out and, if so, when it might happen. Stay tuned for updates, and feel free to share your thoughts on this intriguing Spotify feature.
