No brand quite masters the art of teasing new products like Nothing does, but their recent tweets about the upcoming CMF-branded phone were rather confusing. The much-anticipated CMF Phone 1 is nearly here, and from the leaks and hints, it seems like an intriguing product. Here is everything you need to know about it.
CMF Phone 1: Display and Build
While the exact design remains a mystery, a recent image posted by Nothing suggests that the CMF Phone 1 might have a plastic back, potentially replaceable, indicated by a small screw on the lower side of the device. Some reports even mention the possibility of vegan leather back panels on certain variants.
Moreover, the CMF by Nothing social media account shared a teaser that confirmed the device’s name as CMF Phone 1 and unveiled more design elements. The teaser image showcases the device in an orange color scheme, featuring a circular knob on the right side, speculated to be a lanyard dial.
While we can’t be entirely certain if the previous and most recent images depict the same device in different color schemes, their curvature hints at this possibility. Thus, it’s likely that we are indeed looking at the same device.
Shifting our focus to the front, we anticipate a 6.67-inch 120Hz FHD+ punch-hole display, similar to the Nothing Phone (2a), although this is all we currently know about it.
There are rumors suggesting that the back of the device will be plain without Glyph lights, possibly housing two cameras on the left side. If the leaked images are accurate, the bezels could be noticeably larger, a departure from previous Nothing phone designs. This aligns with expectations for the CMF Phone 1, which is anticipated to be a budget-friendly option.
Performance and Storage
Rumors suggest that the CMF Phone 1 could be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 chipset. For those unfamiliar, the Dimensity 7200 is an octa-core processor comprising 2 x Cortex-A715 cores and 6 x Cortex-A510 cores. Interestingly, the Phone (2a) featured the 7200 Pro, a processor co-developed by Nothing and MediaTek, raising questions about whether the CMF Phone 1 will opt for the Pro or non-Pro variant.
Regardless, the Dimensity 7200, much like the Snapdragon 625 of old, is a reliable SoC known for offering excellent value for a mid-range device. Storage is likely to be UFS 2.2, paired with LPDDR5 RAM. The base model is rumored to offer at least 128 GB of storage and 6 GB of RAM, with a possible 256 GB + 8 GB variant.
CMF Phone 1: Software and Battery
Leaked images of the CMF Phone 1 suggest it will run Nothing OS 2.6.0, launching with Android 14 pre-installed. As with other Nothing devices, it’s expected to receive up to three years of major Android updates.
The leaked images indicate that the CMF Phone 1 might come with a 5,000 mAh battery. Rumors indicate that the charging speed might be 33W, a notable step down from the Phone (2a)’s faster 45W charging.
Cameras and Connectivity
In terms of cameras, the CMF Phone 1 is rumored to sport dual cameras. The primary camera could be the same 50 MP Samsung GN9 wide sensor found in the Phone (2a), while leaks suggest that the second sensor, an ultrawide angle lens, could be downgraded to an 8 MP snapper. The primary camera is expected to feature OIS (optical image stabilization), and the selfie camera is likely to be a 16 MP shooter.
In terms of connectivity, we expect the CMF Phone 1 to share similarities with the Nothing Phone (2a), such as Wi-Fi 6 support, Bluetooth 5.3, Dual-SIM card slots, and a USB 2.0 Type-C port. However, there are rumors indicating that NFC might be omitted from the CMF Phone 1.
CMF Phone 1: Pricing
The absence of Glyph lighting, slower charging, and a less premium build compared to pricier Nothing devices could significantly reduce the cost of the CMF Phone 1. Therefore, we anticipate its launch price to be below Rs. 20,000 or $240. Our estimate would place the phone at around Rs. 17,999 upon its release.
While some of the specifications discussed in this overview are nearly confirmed, we advise taking all information with a degree of skepticism. What do you think about the CMF Phone 1? Do you believe Nothing is moving in the right direction with this device? Share your thoughts in the comments.
