Previously, we highlighted Qualcomm’s plans not only to release the Snapdragon X Elite chipset for Windows PCs but also to work on a new iteration called the “Snapdragon X Plus“. This Plus version consists of four distinct SKUs, identified with the “X1P” prefix. According to a report by WinFuture, Qualcomm has been actively developing the X1P44100 and X1P46100 variants of the Snapdragon X Plus since February.
However, details regarding the chipset’s frequency, core count, power profile, and GPU capability remain undisclosed. What sets the Snapdragon X Plus chipset apart is the integration of a Snapdragon X65 5G modem, currently undergoing testing alongside it. This implies that forthcoming Windows laptops equipped with the Snapdragon X Plus chipset will have the ability to access 5G mobile connectivity independently, eliminating the necessity for tethering.
The vision of an efficient and potent always-connected PC (ACPC) could soon become a reality. Additionally, the report suggests that the Snapdragon X Plus variant might incorporate 10 Oryon CPU cores, deviating from the 12 cores found in the premium Snapdragon X Elite chipset. It appears that previous speculations regarding the development of an eight-core Qualcomm PC chipset have likely been abandoned.
Reports suggest that the Snapdragon X Plus will be introduced to the market following the debut of the Snapdragon X Elite, expected in June. For those unaware, Microsoft is hosting an event in May, during which the company will unveil Surface laptops equipped with the Snapdragon X Elite chipset. These new ARM-based laptops are slated to be available for shipping in June.
Furthermore, a Qualcomm engineer recently affirmed that Windows games will seamlessly function on the Snapdragon X Elite processor. Additionally, recent benchmarks for the Snapdragon X Elite indicate performance comparable to the Apple M2 chipset, which is promising. However, it falls short of surpassing the Apple M3 chipset, based on leaked benchmarks available thus far.
