Since its release, the Apple Vision Pro has garnered attention for both positive and negative reasons. Recently, some users have experienced health issues related to wearing the headset, as reported by MarketWatch. Complaints include headaches, neck pain, and other discomforts.
According to the report, Emily Olman, marketing chief of Hopscotch Interactive, even mentioned getting “super dark black eyes” after wearing the headset for the first time. She attributed this to tightening the Fit Dial too far, which caused excessive weight on her cheeks. Emily acknowledged that this was a fit issue and resolved once she wore the device correctly.
Another user, Ian Beacraft, CEO of the consulting firm Signal, shared with MarketWatch that he experienced pain at the base of his skull and upper back after using the Vision Pro headset.
Moreover, several Reddit users have also voiced concerns about ongoing headaches, discomfort, and eye strain caused by the Vision Pro. Some users find Apple’s Spatial Computer too heavy and dislike its face-hugging design, which they find uncomfortable. To mitigate these issues, some users have switched to modified straps and third-party products.
Apple has not issued a comment regarding the customer complaints but directed MarketWatch to its user guidelines. Apple has specific guidelines for using its high-end headset, including recommending users take a break from the headset every 20 to 30 minutes during the adaptation period. Additionally, if a user feels unwell, they should stop using the headset. Apple also advises against continued use of the headset for users experiencing headaches, eye strain, or neck pain.
It’s important to note that not all Vision Pro users have experienced eye strain, discomfort, or other health issues. Some users have reported no problems using the Vision Pro for extended periods with the default band options.
AzMo Tech’s Take
Undoubtedly, the Apple Vision Pro may cause some discomfort due to its weight of 650 grams and front-heavy distribution. However, it should not lead to severe issues like headaches and black eyes. A colleague of mine who has used the Vision Pro for extended periods experienced only mild issues. There were no reports of super dark black eyes or other severe problems.
If you’re experiencing severe issues with the Vision Pro, it’s possible that you’re wearing it incorrectly. The device is a substantial piece of gear worn on the face, exerting pressure on muscles that may not have been noticed before. If the fit is too tight, it can apply excessive pressure on the cheeks and squeeze the head unnaturally, leading to issues.
When using it for the first time, there may be an adjustment period with slight discomfort or mild issues. Once you get the positioning and fitting right, things should improve.
