Microsoft Copilot has excelled in this aspect, consistently providing source links. It appears that OpenAI is now recognizing the significance of source citations.
In a recent X post on Friday, the company announced a new feature for ChatGPT. This feature will include links to sources used in its responses. The post suggests that including links to sources in responses provides more context and makes it easier for users to discover content from publishers and creators.
The video includes answers with relevant source links appended to the end of each sentence. These clickable links direct you to the source site, allowing you to verify the response’s legitimacy and explore further information on the topic at hand.
However, there’s a significant caveat: this feature is exclusive to paid plans, such as ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Enterprise versions. These versions grant access to GPT-4, enabling the system to search the internet for answers, unlike the free version. This limitation might disappoint many, as paying extra for basic citations may not be feasible for most users.
Adding links to sources benefits both users and hardworking publishers who create informative content. Interestingly, this is an aspect that even Google didn’t prioritize much, as their Gemini chatbot rarely mentions sources, except for a few rare instances.
Microsoft’s Copilot, on the other hand, deserves praise for consistently providing links to sources in responses, and sometimes even including video links if they are relevant to your query.
