Reportedly, the PS5 Pro will feature an identical CPU with a minor increase in speed.

As anticipation builds for the PS5 Pro, recent leaks have provided insight into its specs. YouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead disclosed a confidential technical overview showcasing the graphical performance. This revelation was later corroborated by Tom Henderson, who also confirmed the release of the PS5 sequel in holiday 2024. Insider Gaming has further outlined expected specifications for the PS5 Pro.

Anticipated PS5 Pro CPU, System Memory, and Audio Specifications

  • The PS5 Pro is anticipated to feature an identical CPU to the standard PS5, with an additional “High CPU Frequency Mode” that increases clock speed by 10%. This enhancement will raise the CPU frequency from 3.5GHz to 3.85GHz. However, activating this mode will result in a 1% decrease in GPU performance due to underclocking.
  • System Memory is a crucial component ensuring smooth gameplay on PlayStation, with all memory dedicated solely to games. The PS5 Pro’s memory is expected to be even more efficient, possibly surpassing the 28% bandwidth increase, resulting in a speed of 576 GB/s compared to the standard edition’s 448 GB/s.
  • In addition to the mentioned specifications, the PS5 Pro is expected to feature enhanced audio technology. The audio processing (ACV) in the PS5 Pro will operate at a higher speed, providing a 35% performance boost for the ACM library compared to the standard PS5. Furthermore, improvements in audio frequency details will be noticeable, allowing for more efficient processing of convolution reverbs and FFT or IFFT.

Previously, the GPU specifications for the PS5 Pro were unveiled, providing an overview of its performance and graphics capabilities.

  • Rendering at a speed 45% faster than the PS5.
  • 2-3 times the ray-tracing capability (up to 4 times in specific scenarios).
  • 33.5 trillion floating-point operations per second.
  • PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaling and anti-aliasing solution.
  • Future SDK versions are planned to support resolutions up to 8K.
  • Tailored machine learning architecture
  • AI Accelerator capable of handling 300 trillion operations per second (TOPS) of 8-bit computation or 67 trillion floating-point operations per second (TFLOPS) of 16-bit computation.

Alongside the previously disclosed GPU and graphics details for the PS5 Pro, it’s been revealed that the Pro edition will feature 30 WGPs dedicated to running specialized BVH8 traversal shaders. In contrast, the standard PS5 is equipped with 18 WGPs for BVH4 traversal shaders.

Based on these emerging details, the official announcement of the console appears imminent. However, at present, these remain speculative features and rumors. According to these rumors, the PlayStation 5 Pro is said to operate on SKD 9.00. Therefore, with SKD 10.00 anticipated in Fall 2024, it aligns with the console’s projected release timeframe.
