Microsoft Unveils May Event for ARM Surface AI PCs and Windows 11

Two weeks earlier, it was disclosed that Microsoft was gearing up for a significant event on March 21st, focusing on Surface, windows, and Copilot innovations, particularly targeting commercial users. Speculations hinted at the potential unveiling of Intel Core Ultra-powered Surface devices during this event. Now, Microsoft has officially announced another event scheduled for May 20th, where it’s anticipated to introduce Snapdragon X Elite-powered Surface AI PCs.

Rumours have circulated about the Snapdragon X Elite-powered Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge, yet Samsung has not confirmed its release date. Consequently, the upcoming Surface laptops might claim the title of being the premier devices equipped with a robust Snapdragon X Elite chipset.

According to insights from Windows Central, the event is slated to be held in person in Seattle. Microsoft is expected to launch the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 featuring the ARM-powered Snapdragon X Elite SoC from Qualcomm. Insider sources suggest that these new Surface laptops will boast genuine all-day battery life, rivalling the performance and efficiency of the Apple M3 chipset. These ARM-powered Surface laptops are projected to hit the shelves in June.

Furthermore, Microsoft is rumoured to unveil a host of AI functionalities for the upcoming Windows 11 24H2 update. From AI Super Resolution to on-device Live Captioning across various languages, the forthcoming update promises a plethora of AI-driven enhancements.

With the potent on-device NPU embedded in the Snapdragon X Elite, myriad innovative AI experiences are anticipated to unfold. Microsoft is also in the developmental stages of a feature dubbed “AI Explorer,” enabling users to search for files, applications, browsing history, and more using natural language prompts on Windows 11. This feature resembles the Timeline functionality introduced in Windows 10, albeit powered by AI.
