Once again, Google I/O is upon us, offering a glimpse into the tech giant’s advancements since the last developer conference. Yet again, unveiling the date for Google I/O 2024 wasn’t straightforward; instead, the community had to navigate through a new puzzle to uncover the event’s schedule, requiring some “twists, turns, and teleportation“.
After approximately 4 hours of tackling the puzzle, it was successfully deciphered, unveiling the much-awaited date. Google I/O 2024 is now officially set for May 14, 2024, kicking off at 10:00 AM PT.
At the time of writing, there are precisely 60 days, 20 hours, and 45 minutes remaining until the developer conference commences. If you navigate to the page containing the puzzle and select the button labeled “Save the date,” the specific date of the event will be instantly disclosed without any further effort required.
For those unfamiliar with Google’s methods, let me provide some context. In the previous year, Google I/O 2023 was slated for May 10. Similarly, in the year before that, Google I/O 2022 commenced on May 11. Following this pattern, it’s evident that this year’s date follows suit, indicating Google’s adherence to its established timeline.
Google I/O 2024: What to Expect?
In the previous year, we witnessed the unveiling of hardware such as the Pixel Fold and Pixel 7a, alongside detailed insights into the feature set of Android 14. Additionally, Google Bard, now known as Google Gemini, was introduced, among other announcements. This year, it’s anticipated that there will be further discussions regarding Android 15, particularly since the first Developer Preview was recently released.
Anticipate the unveiling of the Google Pixel 8a at the event, following Google’s consistent pattern of introducing its mid-range A-series during I/O. This tradition, observed from the Pixel 3a to the Pixel 7a, suggests a high likelihood of the Pixel 8a making its debut at this year’s event, unless there’s an unforeseen last-minute alteration by Google.
Furthermore, there’s speculation that we might receive a sneak peek at the Pixel Fold 2 this year, showcasing Google’s enhancements to its initial foldable device. Given recent leaks indicating that display production for the device will commence in April, the possibility of an I/O announcement cannot be entirely dismissed.
There’s a chance we might finally receive official information about Google’s long-awaited ‘Project Iris‘ AR headset. At the core of the event, anticipate hearing extensive details about Google’s strategies for integrating AI into its array of products and services. As always, surprises may await, keeping the anticipation high for what’s to come.
