Instagram live sessions are great for audience engagement and follower growth, but some influencers struggle to keep viewers interested. To address this, Instagram is testing live game streaming, allowing viewers to play along with the host, setting it apart from platforms like Twitch or YouTube.
Instagram has introduced a new “Games” option, as first revealed by social media expert Ahmad Ghanem on Threads. This feature allows users to select games before starting a live session on the app. Currently, there are two types of games available for selection.
These options encompass “This Or That,” where participants choose between two options, and “Trivia.” Hosts can engage their audience with these games during a live session on the platform.
Based on the screenshot, it seems that Instagram will provide daily refreshes of questions and choices for both games. There’s a possibility for users or their viewers to suggest questions as well. Hosts can engage the chat by prompting them to choose preferences or assist with trivia answers. These additions are likely to spark lively interactions. However, the concept resembles the now-defunct HQ, which was once hugely popular.
Currently, this feature is only available to a limited group of users but may soon roll out to others in the coming days or weeks. Instagram’s decision to incorporate gaming elements seems reminiscent of Twitch, perhaps in response to its struggles in the live video arena and competition from platforms like TikTok and YouTube.
Introducing games to Instagram live sessions can certainly enhance engagement, although it’s important to acknowledge the challenge of capturing the attention of audiences with short attention spans. While these activities may offer some relief, they may not fully address the issue. It’ll be interesting to see what other entertaining features are introduced in the future.
