Xiaomi’s much-anticipated Mix Fold 3 is all set for its grand reveal on August 14th (which falls on a Monday), but the company’s visionary founder and CEO, Lei Jun, has generously treated us to an early glimpse of the phone’s exquisite design. Using just three words – slim, elegant, and premium – Jun captures the essence of this upcoming device.
The enticing images made their debut on Jun’s Twitter and Weibo accounts, offering us an exciting preview. A closer look at the quartet of Leica cameras uncovers their impressive focal lengths: a 15mm ultra-wide and an astonishing 115mm periscope lens. To put this in perspective, the previous Mix Fold 2 sported a 15mm ultra-wide and a rather modest 8MP 45mm portrait camera (with 2x zoom). So, this leap to 115mm is truly remarkable.
Interestingly, only a handful of this year’s horizontal foldable models have embraced the periscope lens concept. The Google Pixel Fold (with a 112mm lens) and the Huawei Mate X3 (sporting an impressive 125mm lens) are among the select few. Unfortunately, both these phones remain elusive due to their limited availability (despite one of the companies being subjected to trade sanctions). Similarly, hopes for an international release of the Mix Fold 3 might be slim.

It’s hard to miss the CEO’s description of the upcoming model as “slim.” In fact, the 2022 foldable variant was already impressively slender, measuring a mere 11.2mm when closed. This puts it comfortably below the 13.4mm thickness of the Galaxy Z Fold5. It seems the Honor Magic V2, with its 9.9mm closed profile, might just have met its match.
