AI Expected to Recommend Apps for Installation in Google Play Store

Since its inception, Google has made significant strides in harnessing artificial intelligence (AI), with its influence permeating across its range of applications and services. Whether you’re immersed in a Gemini product or encountering AI features within Google’s suite of apps, the company’s AI technology is increasingly pervasive. Presently, the tech titan is exploring novel applications of AI within the Play Store, signaling further innovation in this domain.

Update posted on X (formerly Twitter) by code sleuth @AssembleDebug suggests that Google is now employing AI to curate information for the App Highlights section in the Play Store. When users tap on an app in the store, they’ll encounter summarized details about the app generated by artificial intelligence, as explicitly stated by the company.

The information provided under App Highlights predominantly revolves around the app’s features, such as direct messaging and live streaming, offering users a quick overview of what to expect upon downloading the app. Currently, @AssembleDebug reports that this feature is accessible to a limited number of users, activated by Google via server-side changes. However, Google has not disclosed any specifics regarding when it might be rolled out universally or if it will be exclusive to certain devices.

As Google continues its exploration of AI applications across its array of apps and services, it remains dedicated to enhancing its app store experience. Previously, the company was observed experimenting with AI to condense frequently asked questions within the Play Store. This initiative aimed to offer insights into users’ motivations for downloading apps, their preferred aspects, and the features provided by the app.

Beyond refining the Play Store, Google is actively exploring AI integration into other products and services. For instance, toward the end of 2023, AI was incorporated into Android Auto to assist with message summarization. This functionality utilizes AI to condense text messages received while driving, prioritizing safety and minimizing distractions. While there’s no obligation to utilize Google’s AI features, their ubiquity is increasingly noticeable. Hence, exploring how these features could enhance daily convenience may prove worthwhile.
