Nvidia’s RTX 30 series now includes the new RTX 3050 graphics card with 6GB memory. This budget gaming GPU was highly anticipated after the release of the RTX 40 Super series at CES 2024. Today, the RTX 3050 has finally been unveiled.
As previously reported, the RTX 3050 features a 6GB GDDR6 VRAM capacity and lower power requirements, aligning with leaked information. The card is now available at a lower price point, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious gamers.
Nvidia’s specifications for the GeForce RTX 3050 6GB indicate a requirement of only a 300W power supply, a notable decrease from the 550W requirement of the 8GB variant. This update comes after the original 8GB variant was released two years ago, allowing for a more affordable option under $200, making it the cheapest RTX graphics card available.
The RTX 3050 6GB is a downgrade from the original 8GB variant, with a total graphics power (TGP) of 70W compared to the 130W of the 8GB model. Additionally, the 6GB variant features a lower CUDA core count of 2304, as opposed to the 2560 of the 8GB variant.
Furthermore, the clock speeds for the RTX 3050 6GB are lower, with a base clock of 1.04 GHz and a boost clock of 1.47 GHz, compared to the original 8GB model which reaches up to 1.78 GHz, resulting in a 21% lower boost clock speed for the new 6GB model.
Unlike the 8GB variant that requires one 8-pin PCIe power connector, the RTX 3050 6GB does not have a dedicated power requirement mentioned. Instead, it draws power from the motherboard’s PCIe slot it is installed in. Additionally, the RTX 3050 6GB features a smaller Memory Interface Width at 96-bit, in line with its reduced VRAM capacity.
While the GPU did not launch in January as previously expected, Nvidia released its new budget GPU in early February. This makes it an ideal choice for budget PC builds and a great option for upgrading older systems looking for improved graphics performance.
