Latest Intel Arc GPU Driver Update Brings Major FPS Gains in DX11/DX12 Games

Intel has recently rolled out a new graphics driver, version 31.0.101.5186. This driver extends support to Intel Arc graphics on Core Ultra processors, Arc A-Series dedicated GPUs, and Iris Xe graphics. Notably, the driver’s standout feature is the significant performance enhancements it brings to Intel Arc graphics across a range of games.

In terms of improvements, one notable example is seen in Just Cause 4 (DX11), a game released in 2018. Demonstrating Intel’s commitment to enhancing Arc graphics across different APIs, there’s an impressive 268% improvement in average FPS observed on an unnamed Arc A-series dedicated video card.

In terms of realistic performance gains, Intel Arc GPUs showcase notable improvements in various titles. For instance, Apex Legends, a popular multiplayer battle royale game, experiences up to 26% more FPS on Arc when running at 1080p Ultra settings.

Tekken 8, the latest fighting game in the lineup, demonstrates a 15% increase in FPS on Arc, particularly notable when played at 4K Ultra settings. Additionally, Returnal, a DX12-based game and former PlayStation exclusive, shows an 8% boost in FPS at 1080p Epic settings.

The Last Of Us Part 1, a title known for its VRAM demands, sees an 8% improvement in average FPS at 1080p Epic settings. For a comprehensive overview of all performance improvements in various games, you can refer to Intel’s driver link.

The recently launched Core Ultra processors for laptops, equipped with Intel Arc graphics, have received a significant boost from the latest graphics driver update. Both the Arc dedicated GPUs for desktops and the Arc integrated graphics for laptops are benefiting from these improvements. Specifically highlighted on the driver page are three games that showcase notable performance gains.

For the Intel Arc on the latest Core Ultra laptop processors, Returnal and The Last Of Us Part 1 see a 6% increase in FPS at 1080p on Low and Very Low settings, respectively. In the case of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, there is a remarkable 25% improvement in average FPS at 1080p on High settings.

Certainly, the significance of new graphics driver updates, especially for the Core Ultra processors with similar architecture, cannot be understated. These updates are likely to be a key focus for Intel as they contribute to the maturation of Intel Arc graphics. It will be intriguing to witness the progress and achievements of Intel’s graphics division as we move into 2024.
